Cell death in multiple sclerosis.

Cell Death Differ

September 2025

Department of Neurology, Tianjin Neurological Institute, Tianjin Medical University General Hospital, Tianjin, China.

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic autoimmune disorder of the central nervous system (CNS) characterized by inflammatory demyelination and progressive neurodegeneration. Although current disease-modifying therapies modulate peripheral autoimmune responses, they are insufficient to fully prevent tissue specific neuroinflammation and long-term neuronal and oligodendrocyte loss. Growing evidence implicates various regulated cell death (RCD) pathways, including apoptosis, necroptosis, pyroptosis, and ferroptosis, not only as downstream consequences of chronic inflammation, but also as active drivers of demyelination, axonal injury, and glial dysfunction in MS.

Background And Purpose: Low-level light therapy (LLLT) has been shown to modulate recovery in patients with traumatic brain injury (TBI). However, the longitudinal impact of LLLT on brain metabolites has not been studied. The purpose of this study was to use magnetic resonance spectroscopic imaging (MRSI) to assess the metabolic response of LLLT in patients with moderate TBI at acute (within 1 week), subacute (2-3 weeks), and late-subacute (3 months) recovery phases.

Insects and plants have been locked in an evolutionary arms race spanning 350 million years. Insects evolved specialized tools to cut into plant tissue, and plants, to counter these attacks, developed diverse defence strategies. Much previous worked has focused on chemical defences.

Z-scheme Heterojunction on TS-1 Zeolite Boosting Ultrafast Visible-Light-Driven Degradation of Cr(VI) and Tetracycline.

Inorg Chem

September 2025

State Key Laboratory of Inorganic Synthesis and Preparative Chemistry, College of Chemistry, Jilin University, Changchun 130012, China.

Photocatalysis has emerged as a promising strategy to address water pollution caused by heavy metals and antibiotics. Zeolites exhibit significant potential in petrochemical catalysis; however, the development of zeolite-based photocatalysts remains a critical challenge for researchers. Herein, a novel Z-scheme heterojunction was designed and fabricated on the titanium-silicon zeolite TS-1 by modifying g-CN via a simple calcination process.

Acute lung injury (ALI) is characterized by the excessive accumulation of reactive oxygen species (ROS), which triggers a severe inflammatory cascade and the destruction of the alveolar-capillary barrier, leading to respiratory failure and life-threatening outcomes. Considering the limitations and adverse effects associated with current therapeutic interventions, developing effective and safe strategies that target the complex pathophysiological mechanisms of ALI is crucial for improving patient outcomes. Herein, we developed an inhalable, multifunctional nanotherapeutic (MSCNVs@CAT) by encapsulating catalase (CAT) in mesenchymal-stem-cell-derived nanovesicles (MSCNVs).
