The objective was to estimate the genetic parameters of serum total protein concentration in newborn calves (calfSTP) and post parturient dairy cows (cowSTP). The study included 1013 calves and 989 cows from 10 dairy farms. Calf blood samples were collected 24-48 h after parturition while cow blood and colostrum samples were collected in the first 24 h after calving. Blood serum total protein and colostrum total solids content were determined using a Brix refractometer. Chemical analysis of colostrum was performed with Milkoscan. Univariate mixed linear models were used to estimate the heritability of calfSTP and cowSTP and their genetic and phenotypic correlations with colostrum traits. The heritability estimates of calfSTP and cowSTP were 0.21 and 0.20 ( < 0.05), respectively. Strong genetic correlations (r > 0.90) were detected between calfSTP and colostrum total solids and protein content ( < 0.05). Corresponding phenotypic correlations were 0.31-0.33 ( < 0.05). No genetic or phenotypic correlations were detected with colostrum fat content while the respective correlations with lactose were negative (-0.82 and -0.19, < 0.05). No genetic correlations were detected between cowSTP and colostrum traits and only a low negative phenotypic one with lactose was detected. The results confirm that genetic selection aiming to improve the passive transfer of immunity in newborn calves and general fresh cow health would be feasible.

Background: Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is associated with a higher prevalence of valvular diseases and increased mortality from cardiovascular causes. Factors that influence the genesis of cardiac valve calcification (CVC) in these patients are not well-defined.
Objective: To determine the risk factors for valvular calcification in patients with CKD.

Context: Direct measurement of serum free testosterone (FT) may help evaluate hypogonadism in men. However, up to present, availability of reference ranges for measured FT (mFT) is limited.
Objective: To establish age-stratified reference ranges for mFT in healthy and community-dwelling adult men.

Importance: Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) is typically caused by the Merkel cell polyomavirus (MCPyV) and recurs in 40% of patients. Half of patients with MCC produce antibodies to MCPyV oncoproteins, the titers of which rise with disease recurrence and fall after successful treatment.
Objective: To assess the utility of MCPyV oncoprotein antibodies for early detection of first recurrence of MCC in a real-world clinical setting.

Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of combining levocarnitine with tadalafil in treating oligozoospermia and asthenozoospermia and to analyze its effects on serum sex hormone levels and sexual function.
Methods: A total of 80 patients diagnosed with oligozoospermia or asthenozoospermia at our hospital between March 2023 and February 2024 were randomly divided into two groups, A and B, with 40 patients each. Group A received levocarnitine combined with tadalafil, while Group B was administered levocarnitine alone.
