Brain metastasis (BM) is the most common type of brain tumor in adults. The contemporary management of BM remains challenging. Advancements in systemic cancer treatment have increased the survival of patients with cancer. Although the treatment of BM is still complicated, advances in radiotherapy, including stereotactic radiosurgery and chemotherapy, have improved treatment outcomes. Surgical resection is the traditional treatment for BM and its role in the surgical resection of BM has been well established. However, refinement of the surgical resection technique and strategy for BM is needed. Herein, we discuss the evolving role of surgery in patients with BM and the future of BM treatment.

Background: High-grade astrocytoma with piloid features (HGAP) was recently added to the WHO 2021 CNS classification system among the group of circumscribed astrocytic gliomas. These tumors present with high-grade piloid histology with similarities to glioblastoma. HGAPs in the pineal region become particularly challenging due to its deep location and proximity to deep venous structures, the midbrain, and the thalamus.

The integration of robotic platforms in breast oncology has witnessed substantial expansion, fueled by their inherent advantages in minimally invasive access and enhanced intraoperative maneuverability. Most of the robotic-assisted breast surgery has been performed using multi-arm robots. However, the implementation of single-port robotic (SPr) systems in mammary interventions continues to undergo rigorous clinical evaluation, particularly regarding long-term oncological safety and cost-effectiveness metrics.

Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) continues to be the number one cause of cancer-related death for both women and men worldwide. More information needs to be gathered to understand the interactions between cancer cells, the immune system, the microenvironment within each tumor, and the host tissue to develop more effective treatment modalities. Reported here is a simple, repeatable method for inducing cancer within the mouse lung, allowing for the monitoring of tumor growth from early to late-stage disease.

BACKGROUND Gastrointestinal mucormycosis is an underrecognized and underreported fungal infection with a high mortality rate. Diagnosis is often confounded by a non-specific constellation of signs and symptoms. We present a case of neutropenic colitis and ileocecal perforation secondary to gastrointestinal mucormycosis.

Background: Tongue reduction surgery can improve symptomatic macroglossia in Beckwith-Wiedemann syndrome (BWS), but there is no consensus on the optimal surgical technique. This study assesses trends and outcomes of several tongue reduction techniques for treating macroglossia in BWS. Using perioperative and polysomnographic data, we present our institution's rationale for increasingly adopting the peripheral resection technique.
