Article Abstract

In this communication, we describe the first analytical method for the determination of free histidine in hair care products (shampoos and conditioners). Cation-exchange chromatography combined with postcolumn derivatization and fluorimetric detection enabled the accurate (recovery: 83.5-114.8%) and precise (2.4-5.6% RSD) determination of free histidine without matrix interferences at concentration levels down to 1.5 mg kg. Real commercially available samples were found to contain the amino acid at levels ranging between 70 and 535 mg kg.

A series of Cu-based single-atom catalysts (SACs) with asymmetric coordination were designed to accelerate lithium-sulfur (Li-S) chemistry. The electronegativity contrast from the dopant induces a localized electronic asymmetry that amplifies Jahn-Teller distortion at the Cu center. This distortion profoundly modulates the Cu 3d electronic structure and its interaction with Li-S intermediates.

Importance: Increasingly, strategies to systematically detect melanomas invoke targeted approaches, whereby those at highest risk are prioritized for skin screening. Many tools exist to predict future melanoma risk, but most have limited accuracy and are potentially biased.

Objectives: To develop an improved melanoma risk prediction tool for invasive melanoma.

Importance: Multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), with or without prostate biopsy, has become the standard of care for diagnosing clinically significant prostate cancer. Resource capacity limits widespread adoption. Biparametric MRI, which omits the gadolinium contrast sequence, is a shorter and cheaper alternative offering time-saving capacity gains for health systems globally.

Importance: Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) is typically caused by the Merkel cell polyomavirus (MCPyV) and recurs in 40% of patients. Half of patients with MCC produce antibodies to MCPyV oncoproteins, the titers of which rise with disease recurrence and fall after successful treatment.

Objective: To assess the utility of MCPyV oncoprotein antibodies for early detection of first recurrence of MCC in a real-world clinical setting.

Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) patient-derived Mesenchymal Stem Cells (MSCs) behave differently than normal ones, creating a more protective environment for leukemia cells, making relapse harder to prevent. This study aimed to identify prognostic biomarkers and elucidate relevant biological pathways in AML by leveraging microarray data and advanced bioinformatics techniques. We retrieved the GSE122917 dataset from the NCBI Gene Expression Omnibus and performed differential expression analysis (DEA) within R Studio to identify differentially expressed genes (DEGs) among healthy donors, newly diagnosed AML patients, and relapsed AML patients.
