Objectives: This systematic review aims to identify the secondary attack rates (SAR) to adults and other children when children are the index cases within household settings.
Methods: This literature review assessed European-based studies published in Medline and Embase between January 2020 and January 2022 that assessed the secondary transmission of SARS-CoV-2 within household settings. The inclusion criteria were based on the Population, Exposure, Outcome framework for systematic reviews. Thus, the study population was restricted to humans within the household setting in Europe (population), in contact with paediatric index cases 1-17 years old (exposure) that led to the transmission of SARS-CoV-2 reported as either an SAR or the probability of onward infection (outcome).
Results: Of 1819 studies originally identified, 19 met the inclusion criteria. Overall, the SAR ranged from 13% to 75% in 15 studies, while there was no evidence of secondary transmission from children to other household members in one study. Evidence indicated that asymptomatic SARS-CoV-2 index cases also have a lower SAR than those with symptoms and that younger children may have a lower SAR than adolescents (>12 years old) within household settings.
Conclusions: SARS-CoV-2 secondary transmission from paediatric index cases ranged from 0% to 75%, within household settings between January 2020 and January 2022, with differences noted by age and by symptomatic/asymptomatic status of the index case. Given the anticipated endemic circulation of SARS-CoV-2, continued monitoring and assessment of household transmission is necessary.

Traditional live attenuated vaccines (LAVs) are typically developed through serial passaging or genetic engineering to introduce specific mutations or deletions. While viral RNA secondary or tertiary structures have been well-documented for their multiple functions, including binding with specific host proteins, their potential for LAV design remains largely unexplored. Herein, using Zika virus (ZIKV) as a model, we demonstrate that targeted disruption of the primary sequence or tertiary structure of a specific viral RNA element responsible for Musashi-1 (MSI1) binding leads to a tissue-specific attenuation phenotype in multiple animal models.

Objective: This study investigates the association between alobar holoprosencephaly (HPE) and de novo germline microdeletions in the Xq25 region. To develop a Preimplantation Genetic Testing for Monogenic Disorders (PGT-M) based workflow enabling high-resolution preimplantation detection of sub-Mb microdeletions, overcoming the >1 Mb resolution limit of conventional whole genome amplification(WGA) copy number variation(CNV) sequencing to identify causative Xq25 variants and prevent pathogenic microdeletion transmission.
Methods: This study presents a clinical case involving a couple with an adverse obstetric history accompanied by two occurrences of HPE.

Doubly His-tagged mCherry red fluorescent proteins are observed to form fibers and sheets at neutral pH in the presence of no more than equimolar amounts of Zn or Ni. These architectures, on the order of 10 μm in extent, are detected with scanning transmission electron microscopy imaging. Far ultraviolet circular dichroism spectroscopy attests to the preservation of the native secondary structure of mCherry, while the emission spectrum reveals the maintenance of the chemical environment of the fluorophore site.

Introduction: Blue light (peak wavelength 442 nm) has been shown to modulate the immune response in preclinical models of intra-abdominal sepsis and pneumonia. pathways involve optic nerve stimulation with transmission to the central nervous system, activation of parasympathetic pathways terminating at the spleen, and downstream immune effects including decreased inflammatory tissue damage and improved pathogen clearance. Related effects on pain mediators including proinflammatory cytokines (interleukin 6, TNF- α) and autonomic tone (increased parasympathetic outflow) suggest possible analgesic properties that would be highly relevant to a trauma population.
