Acute ischemic stroke (AIS) remains a leading cause of mortality and long-term disability globally, with survivors at high risk of recurrent stroke, cardiovascular events, and post-stroke dementia. Statins, while widely used for their lipid-lowering effects, also possess pleiotropic properties, including anti-inflammatory, endothelial-stabilizing, and neuroprotective actions, which may offer added benefit in AIS management. This article synthesizes emerging evidence on statins' dual mechanisms of action and evaluates their role in reducing recurrence, improving survival, and mitigating cognitive decline.

Genomes are composed of a mosaic of segments inherited from different ancestors, each separated by past recombination events. Consequently, genealogical relationships among multiple genomes vary spatially across different genomic regions. Genealogical variation among unlinked (uncorrelated) genomic regions is well described for either a single population (coalescent) or multiple structured populations (multispecies coalescent).

Background: It has not been established how electromyographic (EMG) data of masticatory muscles can estimate bite force (BF) during daily activities at home, such as eating and bruxism, utilising the EMG-BF correlation.
Objective: This study aimed to investigate the relationship between actual BF and BF estimated using corresponding EMG data and additional information on BF and EMG measured on a separate day.
Methods: Participants were 16 volunteers.

The quest for sustainable and clean energy sources has led to significant research into photocatalytic water splitting, a process that converts solar energy into hydrogen fuel. This study demonstrates constructing a high-performance CdTe/CN van der Waals heterojunction for solar-driven water splitting hydrogen evolution. The proposed CdTe/CN heterojunction, investigated using first-principles calculations, integrates favorable structural stability and features a direct bandgap of 1.

Objective: Despite rapid advancements in understanding of cognitive disengagement syndrome (CDS) in children, less is known about the neural correlates of CDS. The aim of this study was to examine associations between CDS symptom severity and connectivity within and between specific brain networks.
Method: The study recruited 65 right-handed children (ages 8-13 years; 36 boys) with the full continuum of CDS symptom severity from the community.
