Article Abstract
is a zoonotic agent associated with rat bites. We present a patient with cellulitis, subcutaneous abscess, and septic mono-arthritis after a rat bite of the right hand. The patient had no systemic features of rat bite fever (RBF). was cultured from purulent drainage of a thumb abscess. This case illustrates an unusual clinical presentation of streptobacillary infection after a rat bite.

Introduction: Synanthropic rodents of the genus Rattus are reservoirs of different zoonotic bacteria, such as Streptobacillus moniliformis and Spirillum minus. These are mainly transmitted by bites and can cause an infection called rat bite fever, which, if not treated quickly, can cause death. Given that currently the rat bite accident is not a mandatory notification event within the health system of the City of Buenos Aires, there is no record of it.

Background: While the clinical management of venomous snakebites has been widely studied, little attention has been paid to paediatric bites from non-venomous or mildly venomous snakes in Sri Lanka. Although medically less severe, these bites frequently lead to healthcare visits and even hospital admissions, primarily due to caregiver anxiety and concern, and may result in minor complications.
Methods: A multicentre descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted across four referral hospitals in Sri Lanka.
