Article Abstract

The evolution of hierarchical chirality at macromolecular and supramolecular levels in biological systems is ubiquitous; however, achieving precise control over transitions between them in polymer systems is still challenging. Here, we reported multiple chiroptical transitions and inversion phenomena in side-chain azobenzene (Azo) polymers, PAzo-l/d- ( = 3, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10, where is the total number of atoms from the chiral stereocenter to the Azo unit), with different distances from the chiral stereocenter to the Azo unit. In the case of = 3, an unexpected macromolecular-to-supramolecular chirality transition and inversion occurred when the Azo-polymer underwent from a macromolecular-dissolved state to a supramolecular-aggregated state. To our surprise, an exciton-coupling induced multiple chiroptical inversion was observed upon the heating-assisted reassembly treatment, which was demonstrated to be driven by - to -aggregation transition. Furthermore, the odd-even effect was first established to regulate the supramolecular helical orientations (left- or right-handedness) in side-chain Azo-polymer assemblies.

Advances in the Catalytic Asymmetric Synthesis of Chiral α-Aryl Ketones.

An α-aryl-substituted enantioenriched ketone is a valuable building block for the production of both natural and medicinal compounds. Research into their asymmetric synthesis can be challenging yet rewarding because of the need to control regio-, chemo-, and enantioselectivity carefully. A wide range of catalytic strategies has been developed during the past three decades to gain access to these favored motifs.

The nature of the dominant pairing mechanism in some two-dimensional transition metal dichalcogenides is still debated. Focusing on monolayer 1H-NbSe, we show that superconductivity can be induced by the Coulomb interaction when accounting for screening effects on the trigonal lattice with multiple orbitals. Using ab initio based tight-binding parametrizations for the relevant low-energy d-bands, we evaluate the screened interaction microscopically.

Cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs) have emerged as promising candidates for chiroptical functional materials due to their ability to form cholesteric liquid crystals with tunable periodicity. The quality of the final cholesteric phase is influenced by the nucleation, growth and coalescence mechanism of the initial droplets, known as tactoids. Current research focuses on understanding the size and morphological transformations of these tactoids, to gain deeper insights into their dynamic behavior and, in turn, to better control the final properties of novel photonic materials.

Optimal Chirality Enhances Long-Range Fluctuation-Induced Interactions in Active Fluids.

Understanding interactions between chiral active particles- self-propelling and self-rotating entities- is crucial for uncovering how chiral active matter self-organizes into dynamic structures. Although fluctuation-induced forces in nonequilibrium active systems can drive structure formation, the role of chirality remains largely unexplored. Effective fluctuation-induced forces between intruders immersed in chiral active fluids are investigated and revealing that the impact of chirality depends sensitively on particle shape.
