Background: Periostin is an inflammation-related matricellular protein that has been reported to increase in the acute phase after subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) in clinical settings. However, its relationship with neuronal apoptosis, a characteristic of early brain injury, remains unknown. The purpose of this study was to investigate the involvement of periostin in SAH-induced acute neuronal apoptosis and to determine whether clarithromycin (CAM), a macrolide antibiotic known to suppress periostin expression, prevents acute neuronal apoptosis after SAH in mice.

Background: Calcium (Ca) homeostasis in cardiac fibroblasts (CFs) plays a critical role in myocardial repair and remodeling after injury. JPH2 (junctophilin-2; human JPH2 or mouse Jph2) is a structural protein known to regulate intracellular Ca signaling and excitation-contraction coupling in cardiomyocytes. However, the role of JPH2 in CF biology remains unexplored.

Drug resistance significantly impairs the prognosis of patients with gastric cancer (GC). As a key player in the acquisition of drug resistance, understanding the detailed evolution of the GC tumor microenvironment (TME) is crucial for improving therapeutic effectiveness. The clinical significance of markers related to cancer-associated fibroblast (CAF) proliferation and extracellular matrix remodeling were analyzed using public databases and immunohistochemistry staining on an in-house cohort of patients with GC.

In patients, severity of pressure-induced heart failure (HF) due to aortic stenosis and metabolic disorder correlates with thickness and mass of epicardial adipose tissue (EAT). We examined the role of the less studied pericardial adipose tissue (PAT) during manifestation and progression of pressure-induced HF in mice. Progressive remodeling was assessed in C57BL/6 J males, aged 9 weeks, following sham surgery or transverse aortic constriction (TAC) for 1 week (early pressure-overload), 8 (chronic pressure-overload), or 12 weeks (HF with reduced ejection fraction, HFrEF) with or without concomitant PAT excision.

The periosteum is critical for bone reconstruction. Despite serving as a clinical "induced periosteum" treatment for bone defects, the induced membrane technique is associated with significant psychological distress and economic burden due to the need for secondary surgery. Inspired by the ability of induced membranes to function like the periosteum, we propose a tissue-engineered periosteum to replace induced membranes for bone regeneration.
