Hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) staining is the gold standard modality for diagnosis in medicine. However, the dosage ratio of hematoxylin to eosin in H&E staining has not been standardized yet. Additionally, H&E stains fade out at various speeds. Therefore, the staining quality could differ among each image, and stain normalization is a critical preprocessing approach for training deep learning (DL) models, especially in long-term and/or multicenter digital pathology studies. However, conventional methods for stain normalization have some significant drawbacks, such as collapsing in the structure and/or texture of tissue. In addition, conventional methods must require a reference patch or slide. Meanwhile, DL-based methods have a risk of overfitting and/or grid artifacts. We developed a score-based diffusion model of colorization for stain normalization. However, mistransfer, in which the model confuses hematoxylin with eosin, can occur using a score-based diffusion model due to its high diversity nature. To overcome this mistransfer, we propose a stain separation method using sparse non-negative matrix factorization (SNMF), which can decompose pathology slide into Hematoxylin and Eosin to normalize each stain component. Furthermore, inpainting with overlapped moving window patches was used to prevent grid artifacts of whole slide image normalization. Our method can normalize the whole slide pathology images through this stain normalization pipeline with decent performance.

Background: The white cell precursor (WPC) channel of the Sysmex XN-series hematology analyzer, which is designed for blast detection, showed reduced sensitivity for blast detection in leukopenic patients undergoing chemotherapy. This study aimed to evaluate the gating region for apoptotic blasts in the WPC scattergram to enhance detection sensitivity.

A series of 2-substituted 4H-chromen-4-ones 3a-3h containing triphenylamine or N-phenylcarbazole on the benzene ring were synthesized for the first time via the Suzuki coupling reaction. The photophysical properties of the compounds and their relationship to the structure of the compounds were investigated by methods such as spectroscopic analysis, single-crystal analysis, and theoretical calculations. The systematic results indicate that compounds 3a-3h have intramolecular charge transfer (ICT), aggregation-induced emission (AIE), and dual-state emission (DSE) effects with a wide range of fluorescence emission wavelengths (421-618 nm), showing the potential to be developed into a full-color fluorophore.

Turmeric (Curcuma longa) exhibits anti-obesity properties, yet its low water solubility limits bioavailability. In this study, a water-dispersible turmeric rhizome extract (WDTE) was developed using nano-dispersion technology with maltodextrin as a wall material and characterized by UPLC-QTOF-MS, dynamic light scattering, and zeta potential analysis. The WDTE contained 10 identified metabolites, including five diarylheptanoids such as curcumin, demethoxycurcumin, and bisdemethoxycurcumin, with curcumin quantified at 7.

Excessive fluoride (F) exposure, particularly during early development, poses a significant risk to skeletal integrity by disrupting bone homeostasis through oxidative stress and altered mineralization. While F induced oxidative stress is well documented, studies investigating the role of natural antioxidants in mitigating F induced osteochondral toxicity remains limited.
