Purpose: Interfraction tumor setup variations in radiotherapy are often reduced with image guidance procedures. Clinical target volume (CTV)-planning target volume (PTV) margins are then used to deal with residual errors. We have investigated characterization of setup errors in patient populations with explicit modelling of occurring interfraction time trends.

Background: Postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV) is a distressing outcome related to surgeries. Traditionally, ginger has been used in the treatment of nausea and vomiting for thousands of years. Recently, several randomized, placebo-controlled clinical trials (RCTs) have been conducted to evaluate the efficacy of ginger in PONV.

Mathematical models (MMs) have been used to study the kinetics of influenza A virus infections under antiviral therapy, and to characterize the efficacy of antivirals such as neuraminidase inhibitors (NAIs). NAIs prevent viral neuraminidase from cleaving sialic acid receptors that bind virus progeny to the surface of infected cells, thereby inhibiting their release, suppressing infection spread. When used to study treatment with NAIs, MMs represent viral release implicitly as part of viral replication.

Electronic compilation of ambulatory patients' or trial participants' dosing histories has revealed that a wide range of dosing patterns, markedly skewed toward underdosing, occur in virtually every disease and treatment situation so far studied. In planning ambulatory trials and their analyses, one should recognize that patients' variable exposure to test drugs, created by their diversely erratic execution of protocol-specified dosing regimens, is generally the single largest source of variance in drug responses. Trial subjects' erratic dosing behaviour may, if ignored, weaken the trial's assay sensitivity.
