Extracting life history information from mineralized hard tissues of extant and extinct species is an ongoing challenge in evolutionary and conservation studies. Primary lamellar bone is a mineralized tissue with multidien periodicity that begins deposition prenatally and continues until adulthood albeit with concurrent resorption, thus maintaining a record spanning several years of an individual's life. Here, we use field-emission scanning electron microscopy and energy-dispersive X-ray analysis to measure the relative concentrations of calcium, phosphorous, oxygen, magnesium and sodium in the femora of seven rhesus macaque with known medical and life-history information. We find that the concentration of these elements distinguishes parous from nulliparous females; that in females calcium and phosphorus are lower in bone formed during reproductive events; and that significant differences in relative magnesium concentration correlate with breastfeeding in infants.

Purpose: To study clinical characteristics and outcomes of penetrating keratoplasty (PK) and deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty (DALK) wound dehiscence.
Methods: This retrospective case series assessed PK and DALK recipients with wound dehiscence at a single institution. We evaluated relationships between dehiscence etiologies, transplant indications, ocular/systemic comorbidities, keratoplasty type, and adverse post-dehiscence outcomes, especially graft failure and visual loss.

In recent times, many researchers have done a lot of work on microstructure control and composition adjustment to obtain ultra-high strength dual-phase titanium alloys, but there has been almost no research that can elucidate the key factor affecting the strength of dual-phase titanium alloys. This article investigates the effects of five common microstructural parameters on the yield strength, indicating that compared to the other 4 variables, the α lamellar thickness is the key factor affecting the strength of titanium alloys. Refining the size of α-lamellae to the nanoscale while ensuring a relatively low content of the equiaxed α-phase is the key approach for obtaining ultra-high strength in dual-phase titanium alloys.

This study introduces an enhanced numerical technique tailored specifically for refining 1D small-angle scattering (SAS) intensity profiles affected by smearing. Our primary objective is to address the resolution blurring commonly encountered in SAS data, particularly in systems with clearly defined correlation peaks whose spread aligns with the width of the resolution function at corresponding positions. Unlike previous approaches that expanded the SAS intensity using central moment expansion, the new method focuses on expanding the resolution function itself, thus eliminating artificial oscillations observed in smeared spectra due to limitations inherent in our earlier algorithm.
