This research introduces a novel nanocomposite comprising graphene quantum dots (GQDs) and a silver-based metal-organic framework (Ag-MOF), referred to as GQD-Ag-MOF, which was utilized as a modifier in order to develop an electrochemical sensor for the quantification of diazepam. The as-prepared nanocomposite was characterized by Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD), dynamic light scattering (DLS), field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The results of cyclic voltammetry (CV) experiments demonstrated that the GQD-Ag-MOF-modified carbon paste electrode (GQD-Ag-MOF/CPE) demonstrated excellent electrocatalytic activity for the oxidation of diazepam.

Background: Esketamine exerts analgesic effects and has pharmacological properties of bronchodilation and elevation of mean arterial pressure, making it an interesting analgesic agent for patients with ARDS. Therefore, we conducted a randomized controlled trial comparing the effects of esketamine/midazolam and remifentanil/midazolam on respiratory mechanics and oxygenation in mechanically ventilated patients with ARDS.

Methods: In this prospective, randomized, controlled study, patients with ARDS who were undergoing mechanical ventilation were randomly assigned to receive either remifentanil/midazolam (n = 25) or esketamine/midazolam (n = 25).

Acute exposure to a seizure-inducing dose of an organophosphorus nerve agent inhibits acetylcholinesterase, leading to pharmacoresistance if benzodiazepine treatment is delayed. Following soman-induced status epilepticus (SE) in rats, prolonged seizure is associated with severe and widespread neurodegeneration. We evaluated the aminothiol cystamine, the oxidized form of cysteamine, for neuroprotective potential against soman-induced SE and associated neurodegeneration.

Irinotecan-induced dysarthria and management.

J Oncol Pharm Pract

September 2025

Department of Pharmacy, Methodist University Hospital, Memphis, TN, USA.

BackgroundIrinotecan is chemotherapeutic agent often used in abdominal cancers such as colorectal and pancreatic cancers. While often associated with non-central nervous system (CNS) adverse effects, in rare cases it may present with paresthesias and dysarthrias. In one case, a patient received an irinotecan-containing regimen (fluorouracil, irinotecan, oxaliplatin) and experienced several neurotoxic effects, which was successfully managed.

Epilepsy, a chronic neurological disorder affecting around 65 million people globally, is characterized by recurrent, unprovoked epileptic seizures. Psilocin, the active metabolite of psilocybin, a well-known psychedelic compound, has recently gained attention for its potential antidepressant and anxiolytic properties. This study aims to investigate the anticonvulsant effects of psilocin.
