Article Abstract

is a newly identified dermatophyte species that has been found in a near-epidemic form on the Indian subcontinent. There is evidence of its spread from the Indian subcontinent to a number of countries worldwide. The fungus is identical to genotype VIII within the species complex, which was described in 2019 by sequencing the Internal Transcribed Spacer (ITS) region of ribosomal DNA of the dermatophyte. More than 10 ITS genotypes of and can now be identified. causes inflammatory and itchy, often widespread, dermatophytosis affecting the groins, gluteal region, trunk, and face. Patients of all ages and genders are affected. The new species has largely displaced other previously prevalent dermatophytes on the Indian subcontinent. has become a problematic dermatophyte due to its predominantly in vitro genetic resistance to terbinafine owing to point mutations of the squalene epoxidase gene. It also displays in vivo resistance to terbinafine. The most efficacious drug currently available for this terbinafine-resistant dermatophytoses, based on sound evidence, is itraconazole.

Dandy-Walker syndrome (DWS), also referred to as Dandy-Walker malformation, is a rare congenital developmental anomaly characterized by enlargement of the posterior fossa, dilatation of the fourth ventricle, and cerebellar hypoplasia with upward rotation. Retinoblastoma is the most common primary intraocular malignancy in children and typically presents in the pediatric age group, with leukocoria and strabismus being common early signs. Although DWS and retinoblastoma are individually rare, their simultaneous occurrence is exceptionally uncommon.

The collision of the Indian and Eurasian plates during the Eocene represents a major tectonic shift that significantly altered biotic dynamics and promoted species diversification across the Oriental region. To explain the diversification of taxa from the Indian subcontinent into Southeast Asia, two principal hypotheses have been proposed: the "Biotic-ferry" and "Step-stone" models. The subfamily Perittopinae, a lineage of semi-aquatic bugs comprising a single genus and 20 extant species, provides an ideal system for testing these hypotheses due to its disjunct distribution spanning the Indian subcontinent and Southeast Asia.

Fuchka, a popular street food across Bangladesh and the Indian subcontinent, poses potential public health risk due to substandard hygienic practice during preparation and handling. This study evaluated the microbiological quality of and its associated components and identified food-borne bacteria with their antibiogram profiles within a One Health framework. 60 samples including fuchka, salad, hand wash, and dish wash water were collected from street vendors, shop, and restaurants within the Mymensingh City Corporation area (4 samples × 15 sites).
