Introduction: Adipokines may play a role in the early stages of rheumatoid arthritis. This study evaluated the performance of adipokines in a Colombian population with early rheumatoid arthritis and its relationship with disease activity.
Material And Methods: A cross-sectional study evaluated serum adipokine levels (adiponectin, resistin, adipsin, vaspin, and leptin) in patients with early rheumatoid arthritis (eRA), evaluating demographic and clinical variables, along with a control group matched by age and gender. A factorial analysis was performed using principal components analysis (PCA), and a Spearman correlation analysis was performed. Similarly, a cut-off point for serum levels is proposed based on the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve between eRA and controls and sensitivity analysis.
Results: Fifty-one eRA subjects were included; there were 41 women. The body mass index (BMI) was 25.12 ±3.8. A statistically significant correlation was identified between adipsin, BMI, and RAPID3. Vaspin and leptin were correlated with BMI. Resistin levels were higher in patients with RAPID3 near remission ( = 0.041), and adiponectin, vaspin, and leptin levels were lower in patients with DAS28 ESR in remission ( = 0.033, = 0.012, and = 0.017, respectively). Principal components analysis in component 1 adipokines as adipsin and leptin with BMI and RAPID3 as disease activity index are grouped. Moreover, component 2 had a strong relation between ESR and CRP with an inverse correlation with cholesterol levels and vaspin. A cut-off point was established for each adipokine, thus identifying the best performance for leptin levels greater than 0.58 ng/ml with a sensitivity of 76.5% and specificity of 74.5%.
Conclusions: Adipokine levels are relevant in eRA, especially with disease activity indexes. Resistin levels were higher in patients with an activity index near remission. Otherwise, adiponectin, vaspin, and leptin levels were lower in patients with low activity indexes. RAPID3 correlated with adipsin. It is complementary to the previously published analysis of adipokines.

Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) represents a major global health challenge characterized by complex adipose-liver interactions mediated by adipokines and hepatokines. Despite rapid field evolution, a comprehensive understanding of research trends and translational advances remains fragmented. This study systematically maps the scientific landscape through bibliometric analysis, identifying emerging domains and future clinical translation directions.

Modifiable and non-modifiable risk factors in Type 2 Diabetes (T2D) contribute to chronic inflammation characterized by elevated pro-inflammatory mediators and constitutively activated immune cells. Chronic inflammation in T2D leads to perturbations in metabolism, resulting in altered immuno-metabolic axis and further vascular complications. Hence, reducing inflammation by targeting modifiable risk factors such as adiposity, sedentary lifestyle and psychological stress in T2D may facilitate efficient clinical management.

Objectives: This meta-analysis aimed to assess circulating adipokine levels in girls with central precocious puberty (CPP) and compare them with those in healthy controls.
Methods: An exhaustive literature search was conducted, using the Embase, PubMed, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, and Scopus databases, from the inception of the study to October 31, 2023, to identify relevant studies. Studies comparing the serum levels of adiponectin, leptin, irisin, apelin, omentin, chemerin, resistin, vaspin, and visfatin in girls with CPP and healthy girls of the same age were included.

Currently, obesity is a global pandemic characterized by systemic metabolic complications that negatively impact several organs, including white adipose tissue (WAT) and the tissues of the male reproductive system. Since the discovery of leptin in 1994, WAT has been recognized as a dynamic endocrine organ for secreting a series of molecules with hormonal functions, collectively called adipokines. The link between obesity, WAT, adipokines, and the male reproductive system is direct and little explored.

Prostate cancer is a frequently diagnosed cancer in men, but today the prognosis of local cancer and its metastasis has improved markedly owing to multiple treatment options. In therapy, various molecular entities that induce the reversion of malignancy with the restoration of mature cells of the same histological lineage are still under development. The antler of the red deer is a large and easily available source of stem cells, rich in products with promising applications in cancer treatments.
