Balance is a critical component of daily activities and overall quality of life. This study aims to develop a cost-effective exercise system for the rehabilitation of balance disorders by combining a sensor module with target-oriented video games. The system, designed using a microcontroller-controlled sensor module and Unity game engine, features a game component that provides visual feedback and is synchronized with the platform movements.

Mining metals for the advancement of society requires innovative and cost-effective remediation strategies that protect the environment and, ideally, allow for concentration and recovery of metals from waste streams. Microbially mediated strategies that remove metals from aqueous waste streams via sorption and/or oxidation-reduction reactions show promise as eco-friendly, cost-effective solutions. Our objective was to use Mn-oxidizing fungi, isolated from the Soudan Underground Mine State Park, MN, a high-salinity, mine-impacted environment, to sequester transition metals Mn, Co, Cu, and Ni.

Purpose: Develop a musculoskeletal-environment interaction model to reconstruct the dynamic-interaction process in skiing.
Methods: This study established a skier-ski-snow interaction (SSSI) model that integrated a 3D full-body musculoskeletal model, a flexible ski model, a ski boot model, a ski-snow contact model, and an air resistance model. An experimental method was developed to collect kinematic and kinetic data using IMUs, GPS, and plantar pressure measurement insoles, which were cost-effective and capable of capturing motion in large-scale field conditions.

Importance: For the first time in nearly 2 decades, the US infant mortality rate has increased, coinciding with a rise in overdose-related deaths as a leading cause of pregnancy-associated mortality in some states. Prematurity and low birth weight-often linked to opioid use in pregnancy-are major contributors.
Objective: To assess the health and economic impact of perinatal opioid use disorder (OUD) treatment on maternal and postpartum health, infant health in the first year of life, and infant long-term health.

IntroductionThe use of digital solutions including patient-reported outcomes is limited to follow-up of patients with established diagnoses but is rarely used as first step of the diagnostic process substituting a personal contact with a health professional. We report on the diagnostic validity and cost per patient implications based on a feasibility study of a new virtual diagnostic service (VDS) for common neurological sleep disorders that, as a first step, involves the collection and automated analysis of self-reported digital patient data.MethodsThe VDS was established at the Odense University Hospital, Denmark.
