Article Abstract

Lateral neck lymph node dissection (LND) along with total thyroidectomy is the standard treatment for thyroid cancer patients with metastases to the lateral neck lymph nodes. In general, lateral neck LND removes lymph nodes located at levels II to V ipsilateral to the thyroid cancer and preserves the spinal accessory nerve, internal jugular vein, and sternomastoid muscle during surgery. This video article was written to introduce the robotic bilateral axillo-breast approach for lateral neck LND and to describe the surgical method.

The human auditory system must distinguish relevant sounds from noise. Severe hearing loss can be treated with cochlear implants (CIs), but how the brain adapts to electrical hearing remains unclear. This study examined adaptation to unilateral CI use in the first and seventh months after CI activation using speech comprehension measures and electroencephalography recordings, both during passive listening and an active spatial listening task.

Introduction: External continuous perturbations using a motion platform have been developed by employing either sum-of-sines (SoS) or a pseudorandom ternary sequence (PRTS) of numbers to quantify body sway evoked in the medial-lateral (ML) or anterior-posterior (AP) directions, which ultimately helps understand the human postural control system. These stimuli have been provided via pitch tilts of the motion platform for evaluations of AP balance responses or roll tilts for ML balance responses. However, little is known about whether a healthy postural control system responds to 2-dimensional (2D) perturbations similarly when the perturbation stimuli are provided in semicircular canal coordinates (i.

Objectives: In patients with cochlear implants, tools for measuring intracochlear electric environment as well as neural responses to electrical stimulation are widely available. This study aimed to investigate the possible correlation of changes in the responsiveness of the auditory nerve measured by neural response telemetry with changes in the peak and spread of the intracochlear electric field measured by transimpedance matrix (TIM) in patients implanted with straight electrode arrays.

Design: In this retrospective study, we analyzed a cohort of 144 ears of 113 consecutive patients who were implanted with Slim Straight electrode array (Cochlear Ltd.

Rationale And Objectives: The thyroid foramen (TF) is a congenital anatomical variant of the thyroid cartilage, characterized by a small opening that may transmit neurovascular structures. Although benign, TF can be misinterpreted on imaging as a cartilage fracture or tumor invasion, and may pose a surgical risk if unrecognized. Despite these potential implications, TF remains under-recognized in routine radiological practice.

Purpose: To investigate the images and treatment differences for Type IIIa atlantoaxial rotary dislocation (AARD) by comparing the imaging characteristics of patients with Type III and Type IIIa AARD.

Methods: The present study retrospectively analyzed a cohort of 35 patients who underwent posterior C1-C2 intra-articular fusion due to AARD from our hospital database. Among them, 23 patients were diagnosed with Type III AARD, while the remaining 12 patients were diagnosed with Type IIIa AARD.
