Background: There are limited evidence-based treatment options for adolescents with patellofemoral pain (PFP). Flat, flexible footwear have been shown to reduce patellofemoral joint loading and pain in adults with PFP. The efficacy of this intervention in adolescents with PFP is not established. The primary aim of this study is to determine the feasibility of conducting a large-scale randomised controlled trial (RCT) of the effect of flat, flexible school footwear, when compared to traditional school footwear, in adolescents with PFP. The secondary aim is to describe changes in self-reported outcome measures for adolescents with PFP while wearing flat, flexible footwear when compared to traditional school shoes.
Methods: Twenty-four adolescents with PFP will be recruited from the community. Following baseline assessment, participants will be randomly allocated to receive either (i) flat, flexible school footwear or, (ii) traditional school footwear. Participants will wear the shoe as per school requirements throughout a 12-week intervention period. Feasibility will be assessed with (i) ≥ 75% adherence to allocated shoe wear of their total weekly school wear time, (ii) a recruitment rate of one participant per fortnight, and (iii) a dropout rate of ≤ 20%. Patient reported outcome measures will describe changes in knee pain, function, quality of life and global rating of change at 6 and 12 weeks. Descriptive statistics will be used for the primary outcomes of feasibility.
Discussion: This study will determine the feasibility of conducting a large scale RCT evaluating the effect of flat, flexible school shoes for adolescents with PFP. A full-scale study will guide evidence-based management of adolescent PFP.

Molybdenum disulfide (MoS) has recently emerged as a promising material for the development of triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs) owing to its inherently negative triboelectric properties when paired with polymeric layers, along with its notable transparency and mechanical flexibility. However, MoS-based TENGs operating in the contact-separation mode encounter critical limitations, including mechanical wear and limited triboelectric performance, particularly within the constraints of conventional 2D geometries. This paper reports the novel one-step laser-assisted synthesis of hemispherical MoS through the controlled nucleation and growth of MoS precursor seeds.

The adaptive derivative-assembled problem-tailored variational quantum eigensolver (ADAPT-VQE) is one of the most widely used algorithms for electronic structure calculations in quantum computers. It adaptively selects operators based on their gradient, constructing ansätze that continuously evolve to match the energy landscape, helping avoid local traps and barren plateaus. However, this flexibility in reoptimization can lead to the inclusion of redundant or inefficient operators that have almost zero parameter value, barely contributing to the ansatz.

Purpose: Cascaded linear models are widely used for the development and optimization of x-ray imaging systems, yet no publicly available Python implementation currently exists. We introduce CASYMIR, a flexible and open-source Python package capable of modeling direct and indirect-conversion x-ray imaging detectors under various acquisition conditions.
Methods: We employed a modular software design with generalized frequency-domain expressions for each process in the detection chain, which can be implemented as serial or parallel blocks.

This study reports a highly sensitive, flexible, and intelligent microfluidic glucose biosensor integrating machine learning (ML)-optimized and laser-induced graphene (LIG) electrodes with electrodeposited polyamine saccharide-functionalized glucose oxidase (CS/GluOx) crosslinked with polyethene glycol (PEG). LIG fabrication parameters were optimized using a supervised ML model (random forest regression), achieving R = 0.92 and RMSE = 0.

Flexible RF coils enhance patient comfort and increase filling factors, making them attractive for MRI. However, achieving first-mode resonance at 7 T for large-diameter, flexible coils remains a challenge. We present a coaxial capacitor (COCA) coil, which can be 10 cm in diameter and still operates in the first resonant mode at 298 MHz.
