Substandard care, which can result from a delayed recognition of the severity of blood loss, can increase maternal morbidity. Our objectives were to assess the incidence of postpartum hemorrhage (PPH) and of second-line procedures in maternity units according to the quality of their PPH protocol. We used a mixed design, a prospective cohort (3442 women with PPH after vaginal delivery; February−July 2011), and an audit of the written protocols (177 French maternity units; September 2010−June 2011). A quality score was calculated for the protocol of each unit. Maternity units were classified into three categories according to this score: category 1 (total score: 0−8), category 2 (9−12.5), and category 3 (>12.5). The PPH incidence (>500 mL) was 3.2%, 3.3% and 4.6% among maternity units in categories 1, 2 and 3, respectively (p < 0.0001). The incidence of severe maternal morbidity (surgery and/or artery embolization and/or blood transfusion) was higher among maternity units in category 1 (54.8%; 95% CI: 51.9, 57.7) than in either category 2 (50.1%; 95% CI: 47.8, 52.5) or 3 (38.0%; 95% CI: 33.8, 42.4]) (p < 0.0001). The risks of severe maternal morbidity were lower for category 3 than category 1 and 2 (respectively, adjusted RR 0.68, 95% CI 0.60−0.86 and 0.77, 95% CI 0.68−0.87). Finally, maternity units with higher scores identified PPH better and used fewer curative second-line procedures.

Objective: To develop a score (Palineo score) to identify the palliative care needs of newborn patients admitted to a Brazilian neonatal intensive care unit of a tertiary maternity hospital that serves as a reference center for high-risk pregnancies, ensuring timely follow-up by a specialist.
Methods: Patients were assessed by three specialists using a questionnaire that included the same clinical elements as those used for the Palineo score but did not assign scores to the criteria. The score was determined by the consensus reached by the specialists.

The reduction in clinical rotation hours, particularly in high-demand pediatric subspecialties such as Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICU) and Pediatric Emergency Rooms (ER), has highlighted the need for innovative approaches to enhance pediatric residency education. A 2019 survey of Italian pediatric residency programs revealed that most residents receive fewer than five hours of simulation-based training annually, with 66% participating in no simulation activities. Additionally, pediatric ER rotation hours have seen significant reductions-daytime rotations decreased by 29%, while nighttime rotations were reduced by 60% over the past four years at the University of Genoa.

A common problem among preterm newborns is extrauterine growth restriction, or EUGR. The Evidence-based Practice for Improving Quality (EPIQ) strategy aims to reduce EUGR and enhance growth outcomes in neonatal intensive care units (NICUs). The objective of this study is to assess whether implementing EPIQ-based quality improvement interventions is associated with reduced EUGR among preterm infants (< 34 weeks gestation) in a before-after observational study.

Objectives: Adolescent pregnancies (AP), defined as pregnancies in girls aged 10-19 years, are associated with adverse maternal and neonatal outcomes. They are frequently reported among those with low economic status. French Guiana (FG) is a French overseas territory with important social inequalities in South America, marked by inequalities.

Background: Early-onset neonatal sepsis (EOS) is a critical condition primarily caused by maternal-fetal transmission of bacterial pathogens during delivery, with Escherichia coli and Group B Streptococcus being the most prevalent. However, neonatal sepsis can also involve other rare bacteria, including Corynebacterium amycolatum, which was first described in 1988 and is widely recognized as an emerging pathogen in infectious diseases.
Case Presentation: A male infant was admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) due to premature birth and tachypnea.
