Glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) is an intermediate filament protein that is characteristic for astrocytes and neural stem cells, and their malignant analogues in glioma. Since the discovery of the protein 50 years ago, multiple alternative splice variants of the GFAP gene have been discovered, leading to different GFAP isoforms. In this review, we will describe GFAP isoform expression from gene to protein to network, taking the canonical isoforms GFAPα and the main alternative variant GFAPδ as the starting point. We will discuss the relevance of studying GFAP and its isoforms in disease, with a specific focus on diffuse gliomas.

Over the past several decades, decision-making research has been dominated by the study of binary choice tasks, with key models assuming that people remain equally cautious regardless of how long they have spent on the choice problem. Recent research has begun to place a greater focus on studying tasks with a continuous-response scale, as well as models that allow for decreases in caution over decision time; however, these research topics have remained separate from one another. For instance, proposed models of continuous-response scales have assumed constant caution over time, and studies investigating whether caution decreases over time have focused on binary choice tasks.

Density functional theory (DFT) calculations are employed to investigate the formation energies, charge redistribution, and binding energies of iron-oxygen divacancies in magnetite (FeO) and hematite (FeO). For magnetite, we focus on the low-temperature phase to explore variations with local environments. Building on previous DFT calculations of the variations in formation energies for oxygen vacancies with local charge and spin order in magnetite, we extend this analysis to include octahedral iron vacancies before analyzing the iron-oxygen divacancies.

Postpartum Depression (PPD) is a significant perinatal mood disorder affecting many new mothers in the first postpartum year. It is characterized by emotional, cognitive, and behavioral changes, often leading to delayed diagnosis due to nonspecific symptoms. PPD arises from a complex interplay of neuroendocrine, genetic, and psychosocial factors.
