Breast cancer (BC) is the most common malignant cancer in females worldwide. Drug resistance, toxicity, and the failure of current therapies to completely cure BC has challenged conventional medicine. Consequently, complementary alternative medicine has become popular due to its safety and efficacy. () is a green microalga living in fresh water, and its crude extract is rich of bioactives, including carotenoids, known to inhibit cancer cell growth. In the present study, we investigated the effects of a methanol crude extract called "T1" of on cell growth and migration/invasion of the BC cell line MDA-MB-231 in comparison to the fibroblast control cells. TI significantly suppressed BC cell growth, inhibited migration and invasion and induced apoptosis. Interestingly, apoptosis was mediated by a significant loss of mutant p53 protein, and increased Bax/Bcl2 ratio. Our findings support our hypothesis that T1 exerts its anti-cancer effects by inhibiting BC invasion and inducing apoptosis mediated, at least, the p53/Bax/Bcl2 pathway. Ongoing experiments aim to identify the molecular mechanisms underpinning T1-inhibited BC cell invasion using pre-designed metastasis gene-based array method.

Background: The aim of this study was to establish a rat model of premature ovarian failure (POF) with cyclophosphamide (CTX), and explore the molecular basis of POF and the mechanism of Guishen-Erxian Decoction (GSEXD) to improve POF from the perspective of oxidative stress regulation of ovarian granulosa cell (OGC) DNA fragmentation.
Method: The study utilized SD rats to establish a POF model via CTX. Rats were divided into Control, POF group, three GSEXD dosage groups (low, medium, high), and a GSEXD+PI3K agonist group to assess GSEXD's therapeutic effects on oxidative stress, DNA fragmentation and ovarian damage.

Chemical gardens refer to a class of self-assembling structures of semi-permeable precipitates. They have been attracting significant interest due to their relevance to sub-oceanic hydrothermal vents and the origin of life. We have investigated the growth behaviour of chemical garden walls in a horizontal Hele-Shaw cell.

Biofilms-microbial communities encased in a self-produced extracellular matrix-pose a significant challenge in clinical settings due to their association with chronic infections and antibiotic resistance. Their formation in the human body is governed by a complex interplay of biological and environmental factors, including the biochemical composition of bodily fluids, fluid dynamics, and cell-cell and cell-surface interactions. Improving therapeutic strategies requires a deeper understanding of how host-specific conditions shape biofilm development.

To investigate the clinicopathological characteristics of non-HPV-related common differentiated penile squamous cell carcinoma, and to observe and analyze the changes of TP53 gene and the expression and significance of TP53, P16, programmed death-ligand 1 (PD-L1), epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR), androgen receptor (AR), human epidermal growth factor receptor-2 (HER2), and Ki67 proteins in tumor tissue. A total of 65 patients with penile squamous cell carcinoma diagnosed from May 2008 to May 2020 in Yantai Yuhuangding Hospital were retrospectively analyzed, and tumors were confirmed as non-HPV-associated common differentiated squamous cell carcinoma of the penis with negative HPV molecular tests in 55 patients. The relevant clinicopathological data of 55 patients were collected, and the TP53 gene mutation was detected by applying first-generation sequencing technology.
