Article Abstract
Melon is an important Cucurbitaceae crop. Field observations had shown that the green stigmas of melon are more attractive to pollinators than yellow stigmas. In this study, F and F populations obtained by crossing MR-1 (green stigma) and M4-7 (yellow stigma) were used for genetic analysis and mapping. A genetic map of 1,802.49 cm was constructed with 116 cleaved amplified polymorphism sequence (CAPS) markers. Two stable quantitative trait loci (QTLs) linked to the trait of stigma color were identified on chromosomes 2 () and 8 (), respectively. An expanded F population was used to narrow down the confidence regions of and . As a result, was further mapped to a 3.6 cm region between CAPS markers S2M3 and S2B1-3, explaining 9.40% phenotypic variation. was mapped to a 3.7-cm region between CAPS markers S8E7 and S8H-1, explaining 25.92% phenotypic variation. This study broadens our understanding of the mechanisms of stigma color regulation and will be of benefit to the breeding of melon.

The high costs of floral maintenance modulate floral longevity. In some species with massive flowering and long floral lifespan, floral longevity increases overall display by changing petal colour, which ultimately counterbalances costs of floral maintenance. However, the colour of petals remains unchanged throughout the floral lifespan in some species with long floral longevity, and the reproductive consequences of such combined traits remain elusive.

Adolescent girls and young women (AGYW) in Zimbabwe bear a double burden of HIV and unmet need despite the progress made in provision of family planning and oral pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP). We elicited opinions from AGYW and health care providers (HCPs) about a dual prevention pill (DPP) in development that combines oral contraceptives (OCs) with oral PrEP to simultaneously prevent unintended pregnancy and HIV, and potentially increase uptake and adherence to oral PrEP. We enrolled 44 participants (March-June 2021) and conducted 12 in-depth interviews with HCPs (nurses, counselors, social workers, pharmacists, clinicians) from public and private health facilities offering HIV and family planning services in Harare, and four focus group discussions (FGDs) with 32 AGYW who were current OC users, stratified by age (16-19, 20-24).

Public housing in the United States is often depicted as areas of decay and using racialized tropes about low-income communities of color. Despite these negative portrayals, residents of public housing often characterize their place as meaningful homes where they engage in place-making and community-building to challenge their social marginalization. The presence of strong connections to community and place among residents may help explain why public housing redevelopment programs focused on demolition and forced relocation have led to mixed results for improved mental and social well-being.
