In this study, circular RNAs (circRNAs) from Holstein cow mammary tissues were identified and compared between early lactation and non-lactation. After analysis, 10,684 circRNAs were identified, ranging from 48 to 99,406 bp, and the average size was 882 bp. The circRNAs were mainly distributed on chromosomes 1 to 11, and 89.89% of the circRNAs belonged to sense-overlapping circRNA. The exons contained with circRNAs ranged from 1 to 47 and were concentrated from 1 to 5. Compared with the non-lactating cows, 87 circRNAs were significantly differentially expressed in the peak lactation cows. There were 68 upregulated circRNAs and 19 downregulated circRNAs. Enrichment analysis of circRNAs showed that GO analysis mainly focused on immune response, triglyceride transport, T cell receptor signaling pathway, etc. Pathway analysis mainly focused on cytokine-cytokine receptor interaction, T helper 17 cell differentiation, fatty acid biosynthesis, the JAK-STAT signaling pathway, etc. Specific primers were designed for two proximal ends of the circRNA junction sites to allow for PCR validation of four randomly selected circRNAs and carry out circRNA-miRNA interaction research. This study revealed the expression profile and characteristics of circRNAs in mammary tissue from Holstein cows at early lactation and non-lactation, thus providing rich information for the study of circRNA functions and mechanisms, as well as potential candidate miRNA genes for studying lactation in Holstein cows.

Debilitated calves are often presented with an umbilical remnant infection, septic arthritis, or both. These comorbidities, frequently caused by similar bacteria, must be addressed surgically. In cases of omphalophlebitis where the infection reaches the liver, the clinician generally has 1 option: marsupialization of the vein.

Background And Aim: Rising global temperatures and increasing humidity levels are intensifying the risk of heat stress (HS) in high-yielding dairy cattle. The temperature-humidity index (THI) is a standard metric for evaluating thermal stress in livestock. This study aimed to assess seasonal and diurnal variations in temperature, relative humidity, and THI within a milking parlor and determine their compliance with established thermal comfort thresholds for dairy cows.

Accurate estimation of individual feed intake is essential for calculating feed efficiency, planning diets, monitoring cow herds, and managing grazing cows. This study aimed to evaluate the performance and applicability of estimation equations developed to predict pasture herbage DMI (PHDMI) in dairy cows using behavioral traits recorded and scored by the RumiWatch system. The study had 4 primary objectives: (1) to compare the behavioral characteristic outputs of 2 versions of the RumiWatch converter (0.

The objective of this study was to evaluate ruminal and postruminal apparent absorption of Cu, Mn, and Zn with rations containing 2 different concentrations of sulfate Co, Mn, and Zn supplements in nonlactating, nonpregnant Holstein cows. Four multiparous cows with ruminal and duodenal cannulas were used in a double 2 × 2 crossover design. Cows were assigned to the following treatments: (1) mineral supplement providing concentrations of Co, Mn, and Zn at 0.

Further analysis was conducted to determine if the impact of calving season was a more appropriate indicator. This study analyzed data from 2009 to 2022 and included 524 primiparous Holstein cows from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign Dairy Research Unit (Urbana, IL).
