Treatment of patients with platinum-resistant ovarian cancer is a major clinical challenge. We found that high expression of a meiotic protein, Synaptonemal Complex Protein 2 (SYCP2), is associated with platinum resistance and tyrosine kinase ABL1 inhibitor sensitivity in ovarian cancer. We demonstrate that tyrosine kinase ABL1 inhibitors inhibit cancer cell proliferation more efficiently in ovarian cancer cell lines with SYCP2 overexpression.

Background: Robertsonian (Rb) chromosomal rearrangements are very common in mammals and are the primary basis of chromosome number variation between species. The fertility of heterozygotes has particular significance in understanding the mode of fixation of Rb rearrangements, and could have a role in the attainment of reproductive isolation by chromosomally differentiated species.
Summary: Here we survey available data on fertility of Rb heterozygotes in mammals, comparing with homozygotes, and considering effects on litter size, frequencies of anaphase I nondisjunction, germ cell death and pachytene features associated with that germ cell death.
Background: In vitro oocyte maturation (IVM) is not a novel concept; however, its wide-scale practice has been limited because of the lower clinical outcomes compared to conventional assisted reproductive technologies.
Methods: This comprehensive review addresses the significant advances made in oocyte in vitro maturation with the biphasic capacitation (CAPA)-IVM strategy applied to small ovarian antral follicles in humans over the last 10 years. CAPA-IVM consists of a prematuration phase wherein immature oocytes are temporarily meiotically arrested to gain competence before undergoing meiotic resumption.

The spindle assembly checkpoint (SAC) is a surveillance mechanism that prevents uneven segregation of sister chromatids between daughter cells during anaphase. This essential regulatory checkpoint prevents aneuploidy which can lead to various congenital defects observed in newborns. Many studies have been carried out to elucidate the role of proteins involved in the SAC as well as the function of the checkpoint during gametogenesis and embryogenesis.
