Background: Penicillin allergy (penA) records are common, but true penA is rare. PenA records are associated with broad spectrum antibiotic prescribing and negative patient outcomes. We developed a behavioural intervention package to support inpatient penicillin allergy de-labelling (PADL) delivered by a multi-profession non-allergist workforce to remove incorrect penA records from medical and surgical adult inpatients in a UK hospital.

Background Gonorrhoea notifications have increased substantially in Australia over the past decade. Neisseria gonorrhoeae is already highly resistant to several antibiotics and so, alternatives to first-line treatment are generally strongly discouraged. The penicillin allergy label (AL) on patient medical records has previously been shown to influence prescribing practices, to the detriment of best-practice management and antimicrobial stewardship.

Background: Unconfirmed beta-lactam allergy in pregnant people has been associated with higher morbidity, unnecessary exposure to broad-spectrum antibiotics and prolonged hospitalisation. There are no published data on beta-lactam allergies in pregnant people in Australia.
Aims: The aim was to describe patient-reported beta-lactam allergies and appropriateness for antibiotic allergy de-labelling in a maternity cohort in Australia.

Penicillin allergy is the most prevalent drug allergy. Its overdiagnosis has been associated with inappropriate antibiotic prescribing, increased antimicrobial resistance, worse clinical outcomes, and increased healthcare costs. 403 inpatients were audited against National Institute of Clinical Excellence (NICE) Clinical Guidance 183 (CG183) on diagnosis, investigations, documentation, and management of penicillin allergy.
