Idiopathic interstitial pneumonias (IIPs) are widespread interstitial lung diseases with no known cause. The diseases are characterized by a steady decline in lung function. To assess the patterns of IIPs and investigate the correlation between the extents of lung involvement on high-resolution computed tomography (HRCT) with spirometric findings in Tikur Anbessa Specialized Hospital (TASH) chest clinic, covering the period from February 2020 to February 2023.

Electronic address: DrTonyBabb@TexasHeal

We examined the exercise ventilatory response to heavy exercise (ventilation [V̇] and carbon dioxide elimination [V̇CO] relationship from ventilatory threshold to peak exercise) and operational lung volumes (end expiratory [EELV] and end inspiratory [EILV]) in older adults with and without obesity. Forty-nine older adults with (BMI: 33.9 ± 5.

Mechanical insufflation-exsufflation (MI-E) consists of increasing expiratory air flow, thereby promoting an increase in cough peak flow (CPF) and secretion clearance. Respiratory impairment, characterized by reduced lung volumes and ineffective cough, is the major cause of morbidity and mortality in patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). This study aimed to assess the acute effects of MI-E on CPF and chest wall compartmental and operational volumes in patients with ALS.

Background: Limited evidence exists on air pollution's systemic impact on lung function and mediating biomarkers. This study comprehensively evaluated associations between air pollution, COPD and lung function, while exploring biomarker mediation.

Methods: A prospective analysis of 451 566 UK Biobank participants was conducted.

BackgroundDriving pressure (ΔP), the difference between peak inspiratory pressure (PIP) or plateau pressure (Pplat) and positive end-expiratory pressure (PEEP), has been proposed as a better target for avoiding ventilator-induced lung injury (VILI) in mechanically ventilated patients. This study aimed to determine if lower dynamic ΔP would correlate with reduced mortality and lower incidences of VILI.MethodsA single-center retrospective analysis identified 237 trauma patients admitted in 2020 who underwent ≥48 hours of mechanical ventilation and survived ≥72 hours.
