A novel bionic enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (BELISA) based on double-antibody sandwich method is firstly designed for the detection of carbamazepine (CBZ) in human serum samples. In this BELISA system, cucurbit[7]uril (CB[7]) is employed as an artificial capture antibody (cAb), and molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) is used as an artificial detection antibody (dAb). Nanozymes (PdNPs) as signal generators are integrated with MIPs. This couple of bionic antibodies exhibits not only the excellent physical and chemical stability, but also the superior molecular recognition ability. Based on two bionic antibodies that can selectively recognize different sites of CBZ molecule, a new BELISA method has been constructed for the first time. The proposed BELISA method displays a good linear relationship ranging from 2 to 20 μg mL. The detection limit is 0.37 μg mL, which can well meet clinical testing demand. It provides a more stable and economical method for clinical therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM).

The anticonvulsant drug carbamazepine is ubiquitous in the environment and has even even detected in human urine after consuming produce irrigated with reclaimed wastewater. Whether unintentional carbamazepine exposure through food and water affects public health is unknown. Its potential adverse effects are particularly concerning during pregnancy, as carbamazepine increases the risk of intrauterine growth restriction and congenital malformations in fetuses of carbamazepine-prescribed mothers.

Carbamazepine is a widely prescribed antiepileptic drug with a narrow therapeutic index, necessitating precise monitoring to avoid toxicity and ensure therapeutic efficacy. This study presents a fluorescence-based nanosensor using boron nitride quantum dots (BNQDs) for the rapid and sensitive detection of carbamazepine in exhaled breath condensate (EBC). In response to the growing concerns regarding pharmaceutical contamination of our aquatic systems, targeted actions are being implemented to align with the recommendations of the European Commission. However, a challenge lies in finding effective, accurate, and green chemistry-compliant methods for analyzing these compounds in complex matrices. This study introduces a highly sensitive and sustainable ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (UHPLC-MS/MS) method for simultaneously determining carbamazepine, caffeine, and ibuprofen in water and wastewater.
