Article Abstract

Complexes of cationic liposomes with DNA have emerged as promising nonviral vectors for delivering genetic information into cells for gene therapy. Kinetics of the liposome/DNA complex (lipoplex) formation on a millisecond time scale are studied by monitoring time evolution of fluorescence of 8-anilino-1-naphthalene sulfonic acid (ANS) and ethidium bromide (EtBr) in a continuous flow microfluidic channel coupled to a fluorescence microscope. The formation of lipoplexes between calf thymus DNA and liposomes based on two novel cationic lipids (Lip1810 and Lip1814) are found to follow a two-step process with kinetic constants for the Lip1814/DNA complex ( = 1120-1383 s, = 0.227-1.45 s) being significantly different from those ( = 68.53-98.5 s, = 32.3-60.19 s) corresponding to formation of the Lip1810/DNA complex. The kinetic pathway leading to the formation of Lip1814/DNA complex is whereas the formation of Lip1810/DNA complex occurs by a . The observed difference in the kinetics of lipoplex formation likely originates from different structures of the lipid/DNA complexes.

Flooding-induced oxygen deprivation (anoxia) is a challenge to plant survival, necessitating adaptive mechanisms for recovery. This study investigates elemental redistribution during anoxia recovery using time-series elemental imaging to show changes in nutrient distribution. The polyunsaturated fatty acids in fish oil are prone to oxidation and have poor dispersibility, which limits their use in the food sector. In this work, oil-in-water emulsions stabilized by chitin nanocrystals (ChNC) were prepared via high-speed homogenization. Anionic carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) was assembled onto cationic ChNC-stabilized emulsion droplet surfaces via layer-by-layer self-assembly technology to construct ChNC/CMC (Ch-C) bilayer emulsions with rigid inner layer and flexible outer shell structures.

Background: Although robust genetic markers for episodic migraine (EM) have been identified, variants associated with chronic migraine (CM) are still unknown. Given the potential pathophysiologic overlap between EM and CM, we investigated whether six single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs), robustly associated with EM susceptibility (LRP1 rs11172113, PRDM16 rs10797381, FHL5 rs7775721, TRPM8 rs10166942, near TSPAN2 rs2078371 and MEF2D rs1925950) also play a role in the risk of developing CM.
