Antimalarial resistance is a primary challenge in the treatment of malaria. The ongoing search for novel drug sources remains a critical strategy for addressing this issue. This study evaluated the blood stage antiplasmodial and cytotoxic activities of the crude extract and fractions obtained from Lepidobotrys staudtii.

Aim: To compare the preventative effect of the new antiseptic olanexidine gluconate (OLG) with conventional antiseptics on surgical site infections (SSIs) in gastroenterological surgery.

Methods: A comprehensive electronic literature search was conducted through November 2024 to identify studies comparing the occurrence of SSIs between OLG and conventional antiseptics (Conv), including povidone-iodine (PI) or chlorhexidine gluconate (CHG), for incisional site disinfection. The primary outcomes were the occurrence of overall SSI and incisional SSI (including superficial and deep incisional SSI).

Open revascularization for infrainguinal peripheral arterial disease in elderly patients: A scoping review.

Semin Vasc Surg

September 2025

Division of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery, Department of Surgery, Northwell Health, Manhasset, NY; Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra, Hempstead, NY. Electronic address:

Peripheral arterial disease (PAD) is a prevalent and debilitating condition in elderly patients, often leading to critical limb threatening ischemia (CLTI) and major amputations. While endovascular interventions are usually preferred for their lower perioperative risk, open surgical revascularization should also be considered due to its durability and superior patency in complex disease patterns. Age alone does not determine suitability for surgery; rather, candidacy hinges on frailty, functional status, comorbidities, and anatomical considerations.

Introduction: Amblyopia is a neurodevelopmental visual disorder treated with occlusion or pharmacological penalization of the dominant, non-amblyopic eye in early childhood. After early childhood, efficacy of occlusion therapy is limited due to a reduction in neuronal plasticity, and no mainstay clinical treatment is available. Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) have been hypothesized to enhance neuroplasticity in the adult brain, thereby facilitating improvements in amblyopia.

Background: Dengue virus (DENV) is a major global health challenge, causing over 7.6 million reported cases in 2024. Neutralizing monoclonal antibodies (NmAbs) have emerged as promising therapeutics to address the limitations of vaccines and lack of antivirals, but their development is complicated by viral diversity, "breathing" dynamics, and antibody-dependent enhancement (ADE).
