Background: Decanulation in paediatric patients with tracheostomy due to acquired brain injury is a key objective in rehabilitation, and there is a lack of consensus about the optimal protocol and success factors in decannulation. Therefore, the aim of this study is to describe the experience of decannulation in a paediatric neurorehabilitation centre in Buenos Aires.
Methods: An observational, retrospective, and descriptive study was conducted on patients under 18 years old with acquired brain injury and tracheostomy, admitted between January 2016 and August 2023.

Background: Orotracheal intubation can cause complications such as stridor and airway obstruction, which favors weaning failure. The objective of this study was to assess the usefulness of airway ultrasound prior to extubation to predict stridor and extubation failure.
Method: Cross-sectional descriptive study, from March 2023 to June 2024.
Introduction: Pulmonary interstitial emphysema is a severe rare complication associated with mechanical ventilation in pre-term patients. It induces alterations both in ventilation and pulmonary perfusion, and it may cause progressive overdistension of the side involved and atelectasis of the contralateral lung. Management is uneasy and requires changing ventilation strategies, with invasive procedures such as blockage and selective pulmonary ventilation being potentially necessary.

Objective: The impact of left ventricular (LV) systolic dysfunction on weaning failure is unclear.
Design: Updated meta-analysis assessing the association between LV ejection fraction (LVEF) and weaning failure.
Setting: A systematic search of MEDLINE and EMBASE for prospective studies reporting weaning according to echocardiographic data measured before starting a spontaneous breathing trial (SBT).

Background: The growing experience in minimally invasive techniques, supported by outstanding outcomes and excellent surgical exposure of the entire proximal thoracic aorta via ministernotomy, has motivated surgeons to apply this approach to more challenging procedures such as aortic root and arch treatment.
Methods: From September 2016 to April 2024, 243 consecutive patients underwent proximal aortic surgical treatment through the ministernotomy approach at the Cardiac Surgery Unit of the Lancisi Cardiovascular Center of Ancona - Polytechnic University of Marche, Italy. In all cases, a preoperative computed tomography scan was performed.
