We report new records of the fisheries-harvested subtropical greater amberjack Seriola dumerili for the south-east Pacific Ocean. Despite local fishers' asserting that three Seriola morphotypes exist in the region, only one species (the yellowtail amberjack Seriola lalandi) was previously scientifically recorded for Rapa Nui (also known as Easter Island). Whilst we present the first "scientific record", S. dumerili, traditional ecological knowledge suggests that this is likely a pre-existing (albeit transient) species of the Rapa Nui ecoregion. Establishing the existing/historic distributional limits of commercially and ecologically valuable species is key for observing climate-driven distribution shifts, and the inclusion of traditional ecological knowledge is particularly important in areas with relatively lower scientific effort.

Marine heatwaves (MHWs) have recently become more frequent, intense, and prolonged, posing significant threats to marine life and fisheries. In this study, transcriptomic analysis was employed to investigate the genes and pathways in that respond to MHW-induced stress at 28 °C (T28) and 32 °C (T32), using 24 °C (T24) as the control. Transcriptome sequencing revealed that 17 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) belonging to the heat shock protein (HSP) families-HSP30, HSP40, HSP70, and HSP90-were significantly upregulated under short-lasting MHW stress in the T24-4d vs.

Salinity is an important environmental factor, and fluctuations in saline-alkali levels that exceed the osmoregulatory capacity of fish may have profound effects on various physiological functions of teleosts. The greater amberjack is highly valued commercially owing to its rapid growth and excellent meat quality. In this study, the juvenile greater amberjack were reared for 30 days under optimal salinity (30 ppt) as well as hypo- (20 ppt) and hyper-salinity (40 ppt) conditions.

The greater amberjack (), a key species in marine aquaculture, relies heavily on its intestine for nutrient absorption and immune function. However, the structural and functional specialization of its intestinal segments remains poorly understood. In this study, we divided the intestine of into foregut, midgut, and hindgut, and conducted a multi-omics analysis integrating histological staining (H&E/AB-PAS), digestive enzyme assays, transcriptome sequencing, and 16S rRNA microbiota profiling to characterize structural, functional, molecular, and microbial differences across intestinal segments.
