Article Abstract

Members of the Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex cause tuberculosis, infamous for enormous impacts on human health. As zoonoses, they also threaten endangered species like African/Asian elephants. We report the whole-genome sequences of Mycobacterium tuberculosis bv. tuberculosis and bv. bovis from two zoo elephants in the United States.

The consumption of water of low microbiological quality can be detrimental and may cause significant health issues. Thus, amplicon sequencing can be an advantageous method to observe bacterial diversity in water. This study aimed to understand the complex bacterial communities present in natural mineral water packaged in 20 L returnable containers through amplicon sequencing.

Mycobacteria ( family) comprise five genera (, , , , and ), which include relevant animal and human pathogens. Histology is a rapid method for preemptively diagnosing mycobacteriosis, contributing to surveillance, control, and eradication. A constraint on histology is the limited sensitivity and specificity of acid-fast stains, as the number of detectable bacilli in formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded (FFPE) tissue varies and other microorganisms are acid-fast positive.

complex (MABC) is notoriously difficult to treat. Current guidelines suggest a 14-day-long incubation and/or sequencing of to detect inducible macrolide resistance. We assessed whether the evolution of minimum inhibitory concentrations (MICs) can reliably predict inducible macrolide resistance and clinical outcomes of extrapulmonary MABC infections.

Pyrazinamide (PZA) plays a crucial role in the treatment of both active and latent tuberculosis, particularly in regimens designed to treat drug-resistant TB. However, diagnosing resistance to PZA poses challenges for managing TB, highlighting the need for accurate detection methods. This study aims to address the challenges in detecting PZA resistance by modifying the standard MGIT960 PZA drug susceptibility testing method by optimizing the inoculum dilution.

Aims: In this study, we aimed to analyze the pathogen detection results in spinal infections using percutaneous CT-guided biopsy or transforaminal endoscopic spinal biopsy.

Methods: This is a retrospective observational study of patients who underwent biopsy for spinal infection at Shanghai Sixth People's Hospital between December 2020 and June 2024. Data on demographics, clinical presentations, radiological findings, and histopathology were collected from medical records.
