Gibberellins (GAs) are an important group of phytohormones associated with diverse growth and developmental processes, including cell elongation, seed germination, and secondary growth. Recent genomic and genetic analyses have advanced our knowledge of GA signaling pathways and related genes in model plant species. However, functional genomics analyses of GA signaling pathways in , a perennial herb, have rarely been carried out, despite its well-known economical and medicinal importance. Here, we conducted functional characterization of GA receptors and investigated their physiological roles in the secondary growth of storage roots. We found that the physiological and genetic functions of gibberellin-insensitive dwarf1s (PgGID1s) have been evolutionarily conserved. Additionally, the essential domains and residues in the primary protein structure for interaction with active GAs and DELLA proteins are well-conserved. Overexpression of in completely restored the GA deficient phenotype of the () double mutant. Exogenous GA treatment greatly enhanced the secondary growth of tap roots; however, paclobutrazol (PCZ), a GA biosynthetic inhibitor, reduced root growth in . Transcriptome profiling of roots revealed that GA-induced root secondary growth is closely associated with cell wall biogenesis, the cell cycle, the jasmonic acid (JA) response, and nitrate assimilation, suggesting that a transcriptional network regulate root secondary growth in . These results provide novel insights into the mechanism controlling secondary root growth in .

Hemorrhagic stroke occurs due to a rupture of a blood vessel in the brain. This leads to initial mechanical damage at the site of injury and secondary injuries including axonal degeneration (AxD). Since axons are critical for all brain functions, we systematically reviewed studies that focused on axonal degeneration in two major types of hemorrhagic stroke, intracerebral hemorrhage and subarachnoid hemorrhage, to understand how and to what extent AxD develops and to interrogate underlying mechanisms and potential therapeutic targets.

The association of plants with beneficial soil microbes, including arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) and plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR), can enhance plant growth and nutrient uptake while modifying plant traits including growth rate, architecture, nutritional quality, secondary metabolites, phytohormones and volatile organic compounds (VOCs), necessary for interactions with insect pests and their natural enemies. Microbe-induced effects on insect herbivores and their natural enemies can be positive, neutral, or negative and are context dependent, creating the need for continued synthesis of published research to identify emerging patterns, recognize limitations, and guide future research. This perspective highlights three key pathways through which beneficial soil microbes drive interactions among agricultural plants, insect pests, and their natural enemies through the lens of applied research: (1) alterations in plant growth rate, architecture, and nutritional quality; (2) modifications of plant secondary metabolites and phytohormones; and (3) modifications in the emissions of volatile organic compounds.

Health-related quality of life (HRQOL) adds important information about the quality and usefulness of interventions. It has not previously been examined in school-based indicated prevention for anxiety in adolescents. Using secondary analyses of data from a randomized controlled trial of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) interventions for anxious adolescents (N = 302; mean age 14), we examined whether HRQOL increased during and after treatment.

The soil in reclaimed shale gas sites is compacted and suffers from issues like poor drainage, drought conditions, and nutrient deficiency, posing challenges for agricultural production. In this study, rare earth tailings were incorporated into biochar at different mass ratios (rare earth tailings: biochar = 1:1, 1:2, 1:3, 1:4). Subsequently, a series of rare earth tailings-doped biochar materials (REE-BC) were prepared by calcination at 700°C.
