While much work has emphasized the role of the environment in language learning, research equally reports consistent effects of the child's knowledge, in particular, the words known to individual children, in steering further lexical development. Much of this work is based on cross-sectional data, assuming that the words typically known to children at n months predict the words typically known to children at n+x months. Given acknowledged variability in the number of words known to individual children at different ages, a more conclusive analysis of this issue requires examination of individual differences in the words learned by individual children across development, that is, using longitudinal data.

With their superior switching speed, GaN high-electron-mobility transistors (HEMTs) enable high power density, reduce energy losses, and increase power efficiency in a wide range of applications, such as power electronics, due to their high breakdown voltage. GaN-HEMT devices are subject to long-term reliability due to the self-heating effect and lattice mismatch between the SiC substrate and the GaN. Depletion-mode GaN HEMTs are utilized for radio frequency applications, and this work investigates three wide-bandgap (WBG) GaN HEMT fixed-frequency oscillators with output buffers.

Measuring Fatigue in Multiple Sclerosis: A Rapid Review.

Patient

August 2025

National Centre for Epidemiology and Population Health, The Australian National University, Building 63A, Acton, ACT, 2601, Australia.

Background: Fatigue is one of the most prevalent and debilitating symptoms of multiple sclerosis (MS), as people with MS describe it. It has a complex pathogenesis and often precedes the clinical symptoms of MS and potentially indicates disease progression. Given its prevalence, impact, and intricate connections to disease pathology, accurate measurement is crucial to manage and study fatigue in people with MS; however, current measurements often lack content validity.

Hydrophobic Mismatching Tunes the Interaction Kinetics between α-Helical Peptides and the Cell Membrane.

Hydrophobic mismatching is energetically disadvantageous for the interactions between proteins and membranes, but little is known about how hydrophobic mismatching affects the free energy of interaction and thereby tunes the interaction kinetics. Here, we use α-helical peptide KALP23 as a model and employ sum frequency generation vibrational spectroscopy (SFG-VS) to examine the influence of hydrophobic mismatching on the interaction between peptide and lipid bilayers with different hydrophobic thickness. It is found that hydrophobic mismatching has a great impact on the interaction model.
