Glucagon-like peptide 1 receptor agonists (GLP-1 RAs) have gained prominence for their efficacy in treating type 2 diabetes and obesity. Recent evidence suggests that their pleiotropic effects-beyond glycemic control and weight loss-include anti-inflammatory, immunomodulatory, and antioxidative effects, which may beneficially support various dermatologic conditions such as psoriasis, hidradenitis suppurativa, acanthosis nigricans, and Hailey-Hailey disease. Acute ischemic stroke (AIS) remains a leading cause of mortality and long-term disability globally, with survivors at high risk of recurrent stroke, cardiovascular events, and post-stroke dementia. Statins, while widely used for their lipid-lowering effects, also possess pleiotropic properties, including anti-inflammatory, endothelial-stabilizing, and neuroprotective actions, which may offer added benefit in AIS management. This article synthesizes emerging evidence on statins' dual mechanisms of action and evaluates their role in reducing recurrence, improving survival, and mitigating cognitive decline.

Traumatic injury is the leading cause of death for individuals aged 1-45 in the USA. Variations in patient management based on geographic locations, community resources, and provider characteristics contribute to disparities in patient outcomes. It is estimated that 20,000 Americans lives could be saved yearly if all trauma centers performed as well as the highest-performing center, which is achievable, in part, through the reduction of inappropriate practice variation.
