This commentary examines the learnings from different countries included in the Special Series: . Studies focused on the initial phase of the GFF and highlighted key themes, including power asymmetries, stakeholder engagement, the alignment of funding to health needs, and the treatment of community health and quality of care within GFF-supported programs. This commentary reflects on policy processes and health financing dynamics emerging from the papers in the Special Series and examines what it means for the new strategy in development by the GFF.

Our understanding of how the medial temporal lobe (MTL) contributes to human cognition has advanced enormously over the past half a century. My work in the 1990s characterizing the role of recollection and familiarity processes in episodic memory led me to study the MTL's role in these two memory processes. In the current paper, I provide a personal commentary in which I describe the motivating ideas, as well as the invaluable impact of mentors, colleagues, and students that led to a series of studies showing that conscious recollection is critically dependent on the hippocampus, whereas familiarity-based judgments are dependent on regions such as the perirhinal cortex.

This commentary critically appraises attacks on applied behavior analysis (ABA) from outside and-increasingly-within the field. Commonly repeated attacks are that ABA is coercive and suppresses individual identity, aligns with the medical model, causes trauma, and, in more extreme cases, constitutes abuse. We illustrate how these claims are based on unfounded criticism and longstanding myths about ABA and stand in direct contrast to the empirical foundations of behavior analysis.
