Multilocus variable-number tandem-repeat analysis (MLVA) is a widely accepted molecular typing tool for enterohemorrhagic (EHEC). However, ensuring the accuracy of MLVA data among multiple laboratories remains difficult. We developed a method of constructing adjusted look-up tables, which are necessary for MLVA profiling, at each laboratory using a regression analysis based on electrophoresis data from 24 in-house reference strains. On performing MLVA against 51 EHEC O157 isolates, the repeat numbers of 46 isolates were determined accurately using the look-up table with a 99% prediction interval, an outcome superior to that when using a 95% prediction interval. For the remaining five isolates, although the electrophoresis size fell outside the look-up table, we were able to predict the repeat number accurately by extrapolation or the nearest values of the look-up table. Our approach provides more accurate results than a nonadjusted conventional look-up table for calibrating MLVA profiles.

Background And Purpose: Accurate stopping-power ratio (SPR) estimation is crucial for proton therapy planning. In brain cancer patients with metal clips, SPR accuracy may be affected by high-density materials and imaging artefacts. Dual-energy CT (DECT)-based methods have been shown to improve SPR accuracy.

High-performance radiation detectors often employ crystal arrays where light can leak between them, a phenomenon called intercrystal crosstalk, which demands mitigation for optimal detector performance. The complexity of measuring optical crosstalk in conventional detector geometries makes optical Monte Carlo simulation essential to study and reduce crosstalk through better designs. Addressing the absence of validated transmission models in Monte Carlo toolkits, we developed and integrated a new simulation model into the look-up table Davis Model, aiming at simulating optical photon refraction at the crystal interfaces using GATE.

Background And Purpose: Dual-energy computed tomography (DECT) is increasingly used in radiotherapy delineation due to its enhanced soft tissue contrast. DECT also supports direct dose calculation. However, as most current DECT scanners allow for use in only certain body regions, conventional single-energy computed tomography (SECT) is still needed for some patients.

This study developed and validated multivariate base rates for interpreting neuropsychological tests in older adults. We extended the clinical utility of the Montefiore Einstein Robust Geriatric (MERGER) norms by quantifying score discrepancies, cognitive dispersion, and low scores at different impairment thresholds on the RBANS and select neuropsychological tests. The normative (MERGER) sample comprised 420 community-residing older adults.

A compact fiber Bragg grating (FBG) interrogator, integrating an arrayed waveguide grating (AWG) chip, photodiode (PD) array, and demodulation circuits within an 85 × 60 × 40 mm volume, has been designed and fabricated. Utilizing what we believe to be a novel three-point demodulation technique, precise center wavelength demodulation is achieved. The conventional thermoelectric cooler (TEC) is supplanted by a look-up table (LUT) in conjunction with interpolation for temperature compensation.
