Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is among the most prevalent complications linked to advanced diabetes. Capillary Basement membrane (CBM) thickening is an early clinical manifestation in DR, and Laminin α 1 (LAMA1) is one of the main extracellular matrix components involved in CBM formation. Dapagliflozin (DAPA) has demonstrated efficacy in ameliorating DR.

Camels have unique morphological traits that enable them to adapt well to harsh conditions. This work aims to describe the vascular architecture of the camel retina and investigate its cellular components with a focus on the distribution of mitochondria in Muller cells and photoreceptors, using light and electron microscopy. The camel retina is euangiotic in which blood vessels extend in the inner retina from the nerve fiber layer to the outer plexiform layer.

3D scaffold architecture is critical for directing human neural stem cell (hNSC) fate and spatial organization. In this study, two-photon lithography (TPL) is used to fabricate microcapillary scaffolds based on the Hilbert space-filling curve as biomimetic basement membrane structures for guiding hippocampal-derived hNSC differentiation. The scaffolds feature 80 µm lumens with porous ellipsoidal membranes suspended above the substrate to provide topographical cues and permit nutrient diffusion while maintaining mechanical stability.

Endothelial dysfunction is a known consequence of chronic hyperglycemia and a major pathogenic factor for microvascular diseases such as diabetic retinopathy. The effect and exposure period to acute hyperglycemia on the vascular endothelium, and its ability to recover from such exposure is less well understood. Here, we used an isolated perfused eye preparation to study the effect of acute hyperglycemia on the ocular microvascular endothelium of normoglycemic and 1-, 2-, 3-, and 4-week streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetic rats.

Peroxidasin (PXDN), is a heme peroxidase with a critical role in the crosslinking of type IV collagen, being essential for basement membrane integrity. Overexpression of PXDN has been associated with poor clinical outcomes in many cancers; however, little is currently known about its role in renal cell carcinoma (RCC). In this study, we characterized the expression of PXDN in tumour tissue and adjacent non-neoplastic tissue from cases of clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC), chromophobe RCC (chRCC), and renal oncocytoma using immunohistochemistry.
