Psiguadial B (8), and its fluoro- (8a), chloro- (8b), and bromo- (8c) derivatives were synthesized using a sodium acetate-catalyzed single step coupling of three components: β-caryophyllene (5), diformylphloroglucinol (11), and benzaldehyde (12). These compounds efficiently and dose-dependently decreased HO-induced cell death, a quantitative marker of cell death, in primary cultures of mouse cortical neurons. Psiguadial B also decreased neuronal death and accumulation of ROS induced by FeCl in cortical cultures. The in vitro effects of these compounds in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced expression of nitric oxide (NO), and TNF-α and IL-6 by suppressing the NF-κB pathway in immune cells demonstrated their antioxidative and anti-inflammatory activity. The present findings warrant further research on the development of psiguadial B-based neuroprotective agents for the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases, acute brain injuries and immunological disorders.

Over recent decades, the indiscriminate use of antibiotics in animal production to enhance product quality and maximize economic returns has raised critical concerns. However, antibiotic misuse has led to the development of antimicrobial resistance in livestock and poses substantial health risks to humans through drug residue accumulation. In response, nations globally have progressively implemented bans on antibiotic inclusion in animal nutrition, redirecting scientific attention toward antibiotic-free feed additives that maintain or enhance animal health performance.

This study develops, for the first time, a sustainable method to extract extractable (EPPs) and non-extractable polyphenols (NEPs) from lemon peels using microwave-assisted extraction (MAE) with biobased solvents. A simplex-centroid design optimized EPPs extraction using γ-valerolactone (GVL), ethyl acetate (EtAc), and cyclopentyl methyl ether (CPME) (59.4:37:3.

The emergence of antimicrobial resistance poses significant challenges in conventional antibiotic treatments for chronic wound infections, highlighting an urgent need for alternative therapeutic strategies. To address this issue, we developed a multifunctional electrospun nanofiber dressing co-loaded with anthocyanin (ATH) and asiaticoside (AS) that possesses antimicrobial activity. The tri-layer dressing contains three functional components: a hydrophilic polyacrylonitrile-anthocyanin (PAN-ATH) layer for pH monitoring, a hydrophobic polycaprolactone (PCL) layer for exudate management, and a water-soluble pullulan-Bletilla striata polysaccharide-asiaticoside (PUL-BSP-AS) layer.

This study investigates the cytotoxic and biochemical effects of PEGylated graphene oxide sol-gel (SJ-go) nanoparticles, curcumin, and quercetin on BEAS-2B human bronchial epithelial. In this work, a new graphene oxide nanocomposite (SJ-go) was produced using the sol-gel method through a one-step reaction. These hybrid sol-gel systems include graphite, triethyl orthosilicate (TEOS), and polyethylene glycol (PEG) having a molecular weight of 8000 g/mol.
