Article Abstract

Background: Empty follicle syndrome (EFS) is a condition of undetermined etiology where no oocytes are retrieved in an ART cycle despite adequate response to ovarian stimulation and diligent follicular aspiration. Because of the rarity of this condition, no much published strategies are available to tackle this.

Aim: The aim of this study was to evaluate whether sequential administration of gonadotropin-releasing hormone agonist (GnRHa) and human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) as a trigger at 40 h and 36 h, respectively, before oocyte retrieval (OCR) could correct genuine empty follicle syndrome (GEFS).

Study Setting And Design: This retrospective observational cohort study was conducted in a tertiary fertility center over a period of 6 years from January 2014 to December 2019. Patients with a history of GEFS were administered GnRHa and recombinant hCG subcutaneously at 40 h and 36 h, respectively, before OCR, i.e., double trigger and delayed oocyte retrieval (DTDO) ( = 13). The primary outcome measures studied were number of mature oocytes retrieved, oocyte maturation index (OMI), number of fertilized oocytes, and number of embryos available for embryo transfer. The secondary outcome measures were clinical pregnancy rate (CPR), miscarriage rate (MR) and live birth rate (LBR) per first frozen embryo transfer (FET) cycle, incidence of inadvertent premature ovulation, and ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome.

Statistical Analysis: Comparison between the groups was analysed by Fisher's exact test and paired -test.

Results: Patients in the DTDO group showed a significant improvement ( < 0.01) in the number of mature oocytes retrieved, OMI, number of fertilized oocytes, and number of embryos available for embryo transfer. In the first FET cycle, CPR (44.44%), LBR (44.44%), and MR (11.11%) were observed in the DTDO group.

Conclusion: Our findings implicate that double trigger and delayed OCR (DTDO) is a safe and efficacious treatment strategy for GEFS.

Objectives: Empty sella is the herniation of the subarachnoid space into the sella turcica; either secondary to identifiable causes (e.g., surgery or radiotherapy); or spontaneously, which is termed primary empty sella (PES).

Zona pellucida glycoprotein-1 (ZP1) is essential for maintaining oocyte structural integrity and facilitating fertilization. Mutations in are strongly associated with primary infertility disorders such as fertilization failure and empty follicle syndrome; however, the absence of accurate experimental models has hindered mechanistic understanding and obscured the etiological basis of -related infertility. In this study, CRISPR/Cas9-mediated genome editing was employed to generate two -edited cynomolgus macaques ( ), designated #ZP1-1 (male) and #ZP1-2 (female).

The success of Assisted Reproductive Technologies (ART), such as IVF and ICSI, relies heavily on the health of the oocyte, with abnormalities in oocyte morphology often leading to ART failure. The zona pellucida (ZP), an extracellular matrix surrounding the oocyte, plays a crucial role in sperm-egg recognition, species-specific fertilization, and protecting the embryo until implantation. This article investigates the impact of single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in the genes encoding ZP glycoproteins (hZP1, hZP2, hZP3, and hZP4) on fertility.

Diagnosing a case of patchy alopecia in the setting of lupus erythematosus (LE) can be clinically challenging. Of the various causes of LE-specific alopecias, lupus panniculitis of the scalp is rarely reported. A 40-year-old woman presented with a nonscarring patch of alopecia over the scalp.

Rationale: The objective of this study was to present a case of successful oocyte retrieval following a failed oocyte pickup on the same day that led to pregnancy after frozen embryo transfer.

Patient Concerns: A 31-year-old gravida 1 para 1 woman with Von Willebrand disease, presented to our infertility center for secondary infertility for 2 years with known male factor and failed initial oocyte collection.

Diagnoses: Increasing progesterone, decreasing estradiol, and low luteinizing hormone were signs of a successful ovulation and indicated the need to perform rescue retrieval.
