Phytoprostanes (PhytoP) are natural products, which form in plants under oxidative stress conditions from α-linolenic acid. However, their epimers with relative prostaglandin configuration termed phytoglandins (PhytoG) have never been detected in Nature, likely because of the lack of synthetic reference material. Here, the first asymmetric total synthesis of such compounds, namely of PhytoGF (9-epi-16-F -PhytoP) and its diastereomer ent-16-epi-PhytoGF (ent-9,16-diepi-16-F -PhytoP), has been accomplished. The synthetic strategy is based on radical anion oxidative cyclization, copper(I)-mediated alkyl-alkyl coupling and enantioselective reduction reactions. A UHPLC-MS/MS study using the synthesized compounds as standards indicates PhytoG formation at significant levels during autoxidation of α-linolenic acid in edible vegetable oils. Initial testing of synthetic PhytoGs together with F -PhytoP and 15-F -IsoP derivatives for potential interactions with the PGF (FP) receptor did not reveal significant activity. The notion that PUFA-derived oxidatively formed cyclic metabolites with prostaglandin configuration do not form to a significant extent in biological or food matrices has to be corrected. Strong evidence is provided that oxidatively formed PhytoG metabolites may be ingested with plant-derived food, which necessitates further investigation of their biological profile.

Human skeletal muscle comprises slow-twitch (type I) and fast-twitch (type II) fibers. Fiber type-specific analyses often require manual isolation of fibers, necessitating effective tissue preservation. While freeze-drying remains the standard, alternative preservation methods such as RNAlater and RNAlater-ICE are increasingly used.

This study investigated the effects of fermentable fiber and polyphenol supplementation on mood and cognition following rapid ascent to simulated 4300 m. Healthy adults (n = 13, 21 ± 3 years) participated in a randomized, placebo-controlled crossover study consisting of three, 2-week phases separated by ≥1 week. Food products containing the fiber and polyphenol supplement or placebo were consumed during each phase.

Background: Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) bears the highest global burden of cervical cancer. Living with the disease is a complex experience, leading to significant changes across various biopsychosocial dimensions, which in turn affect the quality of life of affected women.
Aims: This review aimed to synthesize available scientific evidence on the life experiences of women diagnosed with cervical cancer in SSA in order to generate valuable insights into the care of the affected population.

A 79-year-old Chinese man was referred for nephrotic syndrome (proteinuria 4.4 g/day). In blood tests, serum high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol was undetectable, and the esterified cholesterol to total cholesterol ratio was very low.

Objectives: This study evaluated the effects of proximal core training on biomechanical risk factors and strength parameters in individuals at high risk of anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury (specifically: those exhibiting pathological movement patterns, neuromuscular deficits or biomechanical risk factors) and compared direct versus indirect interventions. We hypothesised that targeted training enhances dynamic knee stabilisation and hip control during high-risk manoeuvres, with direct approaches providing superior biomechanical benefits through neuromuscular control optimisation.
Design: Systematic review and meta-analysis using the Grading of Recommendation, Assessment, Development and Evaluation (GRADE) approach.
