Article Abstract

Dermoscopy is an efficient and non-invasive technique which has been widely used in the diagnosis of nail disorders including nail psoriasis (NP). Many nail dermoscopic features are considered as clues to NP. The aim of this study was to investigate specific dermoscopic features of fingernail psoriasis and the correlation between the severity of nail lesions or systemic inflammation, and psoriasis severity of skin and nail. This observational study recruited 135 patients with fingernail psoriasis (1186 fingernails) and 30 patients with onychomycosis (80 fingernails). All of the involved fingernails were examined with a handheld dermatoscope. The Nail Psoriasis Severity Index score (NAPSI) score, Psoriasis Area and Severity Index (PASI) score, body surface area (BSA), and detailed history of patients with psoriasis were recorded. Mann-Whitney U-test, χ -test, Spearman's correlation, and Kruskal-Wallis H-test were used for statistical analysis, and the significance threshold was p < 0.05. The trial registration number was 2020-SR-045. We identified onycholysis as the most common feature (93.3%) of fingernail psoriasis. Red lunula, longitudinal fissures, transverse grooves, nail plate crumbling, trachyonychia, oil-dropping sign, erythematous border of an onycholytic area, subungual hyperkeratosis, and dilated streaky capillaries were relevant to NP severity (p < 0.05). Red lunula, transverse grooves, nail plate crumbling, trachyonychia, oil-dropping sign, erythematous border of an onycholytic area, splinter hemorrhages, and dilated streaky capillaries were relevant to systemic inflammation severity (p < 0.05). The total NAPSI score was positively associated with the PASI score and BSA (p < 0.0001). The thumb had a higher NAPSI score than the other fingers (p < 0.05). In conclusion, dermoscopic features can improve the accuracy of diagnosis of nail psoriasis, and have correlations with psoriasis severity.

Introduction: Cutaneous scalp metastases from breast carcinoma (CMBC) represent an uncommon manifestation of metastatic disease, with heterogeneous clinical presentations, including nodular or infiltrative lesions and scarring alopecia (alopecia neoplastica). The absence of standardized diagnostic criteria, particularly for alopecic phenotypes, poses challenges to early recognition of CMBC, which may represent either the first indication of neoplastic progression or a late recurrence.

Materials And Methods: We retrospectively analyzed a multicenter cohort of 15 patients with histologically confirmed CMBC.

CD93: A Promising NETs-Related Biomarker for Diagnosis and Therapy in Actinic Keratosis.

Onco Targets Ther

August 2025

Department of Dermatology, The First Affiliated Hospital, Anhui Medical University, Hefei, Anhui, 230032, People's Republic of China.

Background: Actinic keratosis (AK), a UV-induced precancerous skin condition potentially progressing to cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (cSCC) with undefined mechanisms, was analyzed for neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs)-related biomarkers to identify key clinical targets.

Methods: Transcriptomic profiles of AK retrieved from the GEO database were analyzed using the "limma" package to screen differentially expressed genes (DEGs), which were intersected with a curated NETs-related gene set to extract differentially expressed NETs-related genes (DE-NRGs). Functional enrichment analyses via Gene Ontology (GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) annotations identified enriched biological processes and pathways.

Dermoscopic Features of Median Rhomboid Glossitis.

Diagnostics (Basel)

August 2025

Department of Dermatology, Venereology and Allergology, Medical University of Gdańsk, 80-214 Gdańsk, Poland.

We present the case of a 26-year-old, otherwise healthy female patient who attended dermatology outpatient clinic due to a reddish, asymptomatic plaque located on the midline of the tongue. Dermoscopic examination revealed an area of small, atrophic filiform papillae. Based on clinical and dermoscopic features, median rhomboid glossitis (MRG) was suspected.

Negative pigment network (NPN) is a dermoscopic structure frequently associated with melanoma. Though commonly observed in Spitz naevi (SN) and Spitzoid melanoma (SM), its reflectance confocal microscopy (RCM) correlates have been primarily studied in non-Spitzoid melanocytic neoplasms. This study aimed to identify clinical, dermoscopic, and RCM features associated with dermoscopic NPN in Spitzoid neoplasms and explore its histopathological correlates.
