Root fractures vary in severity, extent, and location, according to the physical and mechanical aspects of the accident. Root fractures are rare in primary teeth and they affect dentin, cementum, periodontal ligament and the pulp. This paper reports a case of a two-and-a-half-year-old baby who had a root fracture of the upper right primary central incisor (tooth 51) as a consequence of trauma that was managed with minimally invasive intervention. After clinical and radiographic examinations, the presence of tooth mobility, pain, bleeding and a horizontal apical root fracture was diagnosed on tooth 51. The treatment of choice was splinting for 120 days, which can deliver excellent results regardless of the patient's age. The tooth was preserved without needing endodontic intervention until its physiologic exfoliation and normal eruption of its permanent successor. As sequelae to the fractured tooth 51, there was some coronal color alteration and dystrophic calcification of the root canal. This tooth did not develop ankylosis or mobility during the follow-up period. After 57 months of follow-up, repositioning and splinting were appropriate ways to manage this horizontal root fracture in the apical third of this primary tooth. It allowed the tooth to be preserved in the arch with normal function.

Introduction: This study evaluated the fatigue resistance of two Nickel-titanium (NiTi) engine-driven file systems with identical geometries and different heat treatments tested under static and dynamic conditions in simulated root canals.
Methods: Cyclic fatigue tests were conducted using ProTaper Universal (PTU) and ProTaper Gold (PTG) instruments with a curvature of 35° and a radius of 6 mm in both static and dynamic modes at body temperature using a customized cyclic fatigue testing device. The number of cycles to fracture (NCF) was recorded.

This study applied Raman spectroscopy (RS) to ex vivo human cadaveric femoral mid-diaphysis cortical bone specimens ( = 118 donors; age range 21-101 years) to predict fracture toughness properties via machine learning (ML) models. Spectral features, together with demographic variables (age, sex) and structural parameters (cortical porosity, volumetric bone mineral density), were fed into support vector regression (SVR), extreme tree regression (ETR), extreme gradient boosting (XGB), and ensemble models to predict fracture-toughness metrics such as crack-initiation toughness (K) and energy-to-fracture (J-integral). Feature selection was based on Raman-derived mineral and organic matrix parameters, such as νPhosphate (PO)/CH-wag, νPO/Amide I, and others, to capture the complex composition of bone.

Objective: To estimate the prevalence of knee structural pathologies that may warrant exclusion from disease-modifying osteoarthritis drug (DMOAD) trials, based on MRI versus radiography, among participants who would otherwise be considered eligible for enrollment based on commonly used radiographic inclusionary criteria.
Methods: We selected participants from the baseline visit of the Osteoarthritis Initiative that met radiographic structural and clinical eligibility criteria for a DMOAD clinical trial: Radiographic OA (Kellgren-Lawrence grade 2 or 3 with medial minimum joint space width ≥ 1.5 mm); and WOMAC knee pain score between 8 and 18 (0-20 scale).
