Article Abstract

Objective: The effect of lumbar traction on low back pain (LBP) patients is controversial. Our study aims to assess changes in the intervertebral disc water content after lumbar traction using T2 mapping and explore the correlation between changes in the T2 value and Oswestry Disability Index (ODI)/visual analogue scale (VAS) score.

Design: Lumbar spine magnetic resonance imaging was performed, and the ODI/VAS scores were recorded in all 48 patients. Midsagittal T2-weighted imaging and T2 mapping were performed to determine the Pfirrmann grade and T2 value. Then, the T2 values were compared between pre- and posttraction, and the correlation between changes in the T2 value and ODI/VAS scores were examined.

Results: In the traction group, the changes in the nucleus pulposus (NP) T2 values for Pfirrmann grades II-IV and the annulus fibrosus (AF) T2 values for Pfirrmann grade II were statistically significant after traction ( < 0.05). Changes in the mean NP T2 value of 5 discs in each patient and in the ODI/VAS score showed a strong correlation ( = 0.822, = 0.793).

Conclusion: T2 mapping can be used to evaluate changes in the intervertebral disc water content. Ten sessions of traction resulted in a significant increase in quantitative T2 measurements of the NP in discs for Pfirrmann grade II-IV degeneration and remission of the patients' clinical symptoms in the following 6 months. Changes in the mean NP T2 value of 5 discs in each patient were strongly correlated with changes in the ODI/VAS score.

Objective: To explore the clinical efficacy of orthopedic manipulation combined with daoyin exercises in the treatment of chronic lumbar disc herniation under the guidance of the theory of "equal emphasis on muscles and bones".

Methods: A total of 60 patients with single-segment, unilateral chronic lumbar disc herniation from January 2023 to January 2024 were randomly divided into the traditional physical therapy group and the manipulation treatment group, with 30 cases in each group. Among them, 3 cases were lost to follow-up in the traditional physical therapy group and 2 cases in the manipulation treatment group.

Objective: To explore the clinical efficacy and safety of the "Three-Step Nine-Method Lumbar Correction" combined with physical therapy in the treatment of patients with degenerative lumbar spondylolisthesis(DLS).

Methods: From January 2021 to December 2021, 72 patients diagnosed with DLS were enrolled and divided into the Three-Step Nine-Method Lumbar Correction group and the pelvic traction group, with 36 cases in each group. In the Three-Step Nine-Method Lumbar Correction group, there were 15 males and 21 females;aged 54 to 66 years old, with an average of (59.

Background: Surgical strategies for spinal deformities associated with neurofibromatosis type 1(NF-1) have been still controversial due to the wide variety of pathologies, particularly, for deformities with severe dystrophic changes in pediatric patients remained challenging with high complication and reoperation rates. The purpose of this study was to validate our surgical strategies by evaluating clinical and radiographical outcomes.

Methods: We retrospectively evaluated 22 cases who underwent correction surgeries for spinal deformities in our institute.

Expandable cage is designed to facilitate cage insertion from small posterior inlet and minimize neural structure over-traction, at the same time, to expand the disk space as large as possible while prevent posterior endplate breakage during cage insertion in transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion surgery. The purpose of this study is to compare radiologic and clinical outcomes between expandable and static cage, and complications of the 2 groups. Between January 2021 and January 2023, patients with lumbar spine degeneration or herniation of intervertebral disk accepting transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion surgery were included in the study.

Background: Treatment methods for low back pain (LBP) can be divided into conservative, invasive and surgical treatment approaches with traction therapy as a non-surgical therapeutic option. A clinical study analysed the effect of using a traction-bed-device (Movento) on 35 patients suffering from osteoarthritis/spondylosis of the lumbar spine.

Methods: The study was performed as a multicentric, double-blind, randomised, controlled interventional study.
