(GVCV) causes severe stunting and death of cultivated grapevines and is prevalent in native spp. and in the Midwest region of the United States. GVCV can be transmitted from wild to spp. by grape aphid () under greenhouse conditions, but its prevalence, genetic composition, and genome number in native grape aphids are unknown. In this study, we collected grape aphids from native Vitaceae across the state of Missouri in 2018 and 2019, and conducted diagnostic, genetic, and quantitative analyses. GVCV was detected in 91 of the 105 randomly sampled communities on 71 Vitaceae plants (87%). It was present in 211 of 525 single grape aphids (40%). Diverse GVCV variants from aphids were present on both GVCV-negative and GVCV-positive plants. Identical GVCV variants were found in grape aphids sampled from wild and cultivated Vitaceae, indicating that viruliferous aphids likely migrate and disperse GVCV variants among wild and cultivated Vitaceae. In addition, we found that the number of GVCV genomes varies largely in the stylet and body of individual aphids. Our study provides a snapshot of GVCV epidemics and genetic structure in its mobile vector and sessile hosts. This presents a good model for studying the epidemiology, ecology, and evolution of a plant virus.

Fenamiphos (FNP) is a pesticide applied for soil pest control, particularly nematodes, and sucking insects, including aphids and thrips. Despite its use being banned in several countries due to its highly toxic nature for living beings, including mammals, because of its acetylcholine-inhibiting action, it is still marketed for use in agriculture. Therefore, a carbon paste electrode modified with residual grape seed biochar (bSU), served as an electrochemical sensor (E-bSU) for the quantification of fenamiphos in grape juice, tap water, and river water samples.

Buprofezin (BUP) is an insect growth regulator widely used in agriculture to control hemipteran pests, particularly the melon aphid, Aphis gossypii, due to its efficiency and low toxicity. Although approved by the Chinese government, its maximum residue limit (MRL) in food is strictly regulated, and conventional techniques for detecting BUP have several limitations. Our study reports successful BUP detection using a supramolecular fluorescent probe DP@ALB, constructed with chalcone-based fluorescent dye DP and albumin as the host.

Genomes of aphids (family Aphididae) show several unusual evolutionary patterns. In particular, within the XO sex determination system of aphids, the X chromosome exhibits a lower rate of interchromosomal rearrangements, fewer highly expressed genes, and faster evolution at nonsynonymous sites compared with the autosomes. In contrast, other hemipteran lineages have similar rates of interchromosomal rearrangement for autosomes and X chromosomes.
