Article Abstract

Many retrospective series have been reported on the outcomes of tracheal resection for adenoid cystic carcinoma. However, demonstration on techniques of surgery and ventilatory management during the procedure are rare. We, herewith demonstrate a surgical video, wherein a distal tracheal resection was performed through right posterolateral thoracotomy.

Background: Tracheal surgery is a specialized field in which many disciplines work jointly due to the variety of indications and the extended topography. The main indications for surgery include inflammatory (generally post-intubation), congenital or post-traumatic stenoses, benign or malignant neoplasms and tracheal lacerations, whether iatrogenic or traumatic. The purpose of this study is to review the management of one institution's approach to a wide variety of tracheal lesions over the last 10 years.

Tracheoesophageal fistula (TEF) resection and tracheal repair are complex, multidisciplinary operations requiring careful planning and consideration for a safe and successful procedure. In particular, airway management and maintaining oxygenation are of vital importance. We report a 54-year-old female with a history of pulmonary tuberculosis complicated by tracheal stenosis, which required multiple bronchoscopic interventions.

Purpose: Acquired tracheomalacia (TM) following tracheostomy can hinder decannulation and affect the quality of life of pediatric patients. Therefore, a reproducible animal model of type III TM is required for further research and therapeutic development.

Methods: We established a rabbit model of acquired TM by resecting the anterior walls of the 2nd to 4th tracheal cartilage rings, while preserving the mucosa.

Introduction: Bronchogenic cysts are congenital, benign cystic lesions that develop in the mediastinum. Many patients are asymptomatic, and conservative observation is often chosen in clinical practice. However, delayed surgical resection following cyst enlargement and compression of the adjacent membranous portion of the trachea can result in perioperative challenges.
