Article Abstract

Objective: To evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of transdermal alcohol content (TAC) data (i.e. index test) collected with wearable alcohol monitors for assessment of alcohol use or any other alcohol related outcome (e.g., excessive alcohol use) among adults 18 and older.

Methods: We will systematically search MEDLINE, EMBASE, PsycINFO, and the Social Sciences Citation Index (SSCI, Web of Science) for TAC validation studies. The reference standards for this systematic review study are alcohol use data collected through self-reports, breathalyzers, or blood samples. If enough studies are available to conduct a meta-analysis, we will use a hierarchical regression approach to pool the results and obtain summary point estimates.

Convergent Paired Electrolysis Enables Electrochemical Halogen-Atom Transfer-Mediated Alkyl Radical Cross-Coupling.

The direct cross-coupling of unactivated alkyl halides with aryl or heteroaryl partners remains a fundamental challenge in synthetic chemistry due to their inertness and propensity for side reactions. Herein, we report a transition-metal-free electrochemical halogen-atom transfer strategy that enables efficient alkyl radical cross-coupling via convergent paired electrolysis. In this system, anodically generated α-aminoalkyl radicals mediate the activation of alkyl iodides, while aryl/heteroaryl aldehydes or nitriles undergo cathodic reduction to afford persistent ketyl radical anions or aryl radical anions.

Background: Several studies have investigated the risk of complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS) and its prevention with vitamin C. However, evidence regarding the effectiveness of vitamin C for prevention of CRPS development or recurrence after total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is lacking.

Methods: This retrospective single-center observational cohort study, which utilized propensity-score matching (PSM), was conducted from January 2017 to December 2021.

Background: The clinical course and outcomes of alcohol-associated hepatitis (AH) remain poorly understood. Major adverse liver outcomes (MALO) do not capture the added risk of return to drinking (RTD). We examined the natural history of AH and developed a composite endpoint using a contemporary observational cohort of AH.

Calcium oxalate (CaOx) stones are prevalent in urinary tract stone disease. While their formation can be induced in rats by administering ethylene glycol and vitamin D, the initial nucleation and formation processes are unclear. Here, we aimed to determine where CaOx crystals initially form, examine the associated histological and morphological changes, and clarify the genes whose expression varies at those sites and their function.

Introduction: The alarming rate of drug-resistant tuberculosis (DR-TB) globally is a threat to treatment success among positive tuberculosis (TB) cases. Studies aimed at determining the prevalence, trend of DR-TB and socio-demographic and clinical risk factors contributing to DR-TB in the four regions of Ghana are currently unknown. This study sought to determine the prevalence and trend of DR-TB, identify socio-demographic and clinical risk factors that influence DR-TB, and analyse the relationship between underweight and adverse drug reactions and treatment outcomes among DR-TB patients in four regions of Ghana.
