Purpose: To describe a process for identifying birth weight (BW) and gestational age (GA) screening guidelines in Mongolia.
Methods: This was a prospective cohort study in a tertiary care hospital in Ulaanbataar, Mongolia, of 193 premature infants with GA of 36 weeks or younger and/or BW of 2,000 g or less) with regression analysis to determine associations between BW and GA and the development of retinopathy of prematurity (ROP).
Results: As BW and GA decreased, the relative risk of developing ROP increased. The relative risk of developing any stage of ROP in infants born at 29 weeks or younger was 2.91 (95% CI: 1.55 to 5.44; P < .001] compared to older infants. The relative risk of developing any type of ROP in infants with BW of less than 1,200 g was 2.41 (95% CI: 1.35 to 4.29; P = .003] and developing type 2 or worse ROP was 2.05 (95% CI: 0.99 to 4.25; P = .05).
Conclusions: Infants in Mongolia with heavier BW and older GA who fall outside of current United States screening guidelines of GA of 30 weeks or younger and/or BW of 1,500 g or less developed clinically relevant ROP. [J Pediatr Ophthalmol Strabismus. 2020;57(5):333-339.].

Background: The need for renal replacement therapy (RRT) is an uncommon but severe complication following post-cardiac surgery AKI, however there is limited data on the incidence of renal recovery. This study evaluates the rate of renal recovery in cardiac surgery patients that require postoperative RRT and survive to discharge, and describes the clinical factors associated with higher rates of recovery.
Methods: All adult patients without preoperative dialysis, heart transplantation, or durable left ventricular assist device who required new onset postoperative RRT after cardiac surgery from 2011-2022 at a high-volume referral center were included.

Objectives: The deep lateral femoral notch sign, observed in some anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries, may result from valgus-compressive forces and anterior tibial translation. Since combined ACL and medial collateral ligament (MCL) injuries often involve high valgus torque, we hypothesized an association between MCL tears and the presence of a deep lateral femoral notch sign.
Methods: We conducted a retrospective cohort study of skeletally mature patients (≥14 years) who underwent primary ACL reconstruction (ACLR) and had preoperative MRIs within 3 weeks of injury.

Background: Intensive language-action therapy treats language deficits and depressive symptoms in chronic poststroke aphasia, yet the underlying neural mechanisms remain underexplored. Long-range temporal correlations (LRTCs) in blood oxygenation level-dependent signals indicate persistence in brain activity patterns and may relate to learning and levels of depression. This observational study investigates blood oxygenation level-dependent LRTC changes alongside therapy-induced language and mood improvements in perisylvian and domain-general brain areas.

Importance: Exposure to inflammation from chorioamnionitis places the fetus at higher risk of premature birth and may increase the risk of neurodevelopmental impairments, though the evidence for the latter is mixed.
Objective: To evaluate whether moderate to severe histologic chorioamnionitis (HCA) is directly associated with adverse motor performance, independent of the indirect mediating effects of premature birth.
Design, Setting, And Participants: This prospective, population-based cohort study recruited participants between September 16, 2016, and November 19, 2019, from referral and nonreferral neonatal intensive care units of 5 southwestern Ohio hospitals.

Cardiorespiratory fitness (CRF) in heart failure (HF) declines with age. Interleukin-1 (IL-1) is a pro-inflammatory cytokine involved in aging and HF. We aimed to determine the changes in CRF before and after treatment with anakinra, recombinant IL-1 receptor antagonist, in patients with HF stratified according to age below and above 60 years in phase II clinical trials.
