Automated Facial Aesthetics Evaluation: Performance of the Beauty Scanner-Face Analyzer in Measuring Symmetry and Proportions.

Aesthetic Plast Surg

September 2025

Department of Plastic and Cosmetic Surgery, Tongji Hospital, School of Medicine, Tongji University, No.389 Xincun Road, Shanghai, 200092, China.

Background: The integration of digital tools in aesthetic medicine has enhanced the precision of facial feature analysis. Using concepts like the Golden Ratio, these technologies enable more objective assessments of facial proportions and symmetry. The beauty scanner-face analyzer (BS-FA) app offers a digital approach to evaluate geometric proportions and facial alignment, providing valuable data for preoperative planning in plastic surgery and aesthetic treatments.

Background: Hounsfield units (HU) on computed tomography (CT) are strongly correlated with bone mineral density (BMD) and may aid in osteoporosis screening. However, there is no standardized method for assessing bone density in displaced femoral head fractures. This study aimed to measure HU values in the femoral head using preoperative post-fracture CT images of patients with intertrochanteric femoral fractures and investigate whether it correlated with BMD measured by dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA).

Purpose: The promotion of task-shifting and task-sharing to facilitate work style reform for physicians has enabled radiological technologists (RTs) to perform primary matching in image-guided radiotherapy. The purpose in this study is to evaluate the position matching accuracy of RTs and radiation oncologist (ROs).

Methods: Position matching was performed by four RTs and two ROs (RO-A and B).

Assessment of GFR Estimation Methods in Patients with Obesity.

J Clin Endocrinol Metab

September 2025

AURA (Association pour l'Utilisation du Rein Artificiel dans la région parisienne), F-75014 Paris, France.

Purpose: Obesity is an independent risk factor for chronic kidney disease, and accurate estimation of the glomerular filtration rate (GFR) is crucial. However, limited data are available on the performance of the European Kidney Function Consortium (EKFC) equation in individuals with overweight or obesity. We evaluated the performance of the EKFC equation by comparing its estimated GFR (eGFR) to values obtained from the 2021 Chronic Kidney Disease Epidemiology Collaboration (CKD-EPI) equation and machine learning (ML) models, using measured GFR (mGFR, obtained via plasma iohexol clearance) as a reference standard in a cohort of patients with overweight or obesity.

Significantly enhanced effects of heavy metals on the toxicity, bioconcentration and biomagnification under combined exposure.

Comp Biochem Physiol C Toxicol Pharmacol

September 2025

Key Laboratory of Water Pollution Control and Wastewater Resource of Anhui province, Hefei, 230601, PR China; College of Environment and Energy Engineering, Anhui Jianzhu University, Hefei, 230601, PR China.

Heavy metal (HM) co-contamination is prevalent in the aquatic ecosystems and often induces complex combined effects such as synergism or antagonism, bioconcentration and biomagnification on the food-chain organisms, which is threatening the survival of living creatures and even to human health. However, the combined effects of HMs under combined exposure on the aquatic food chains still remain poorly understood. Therefore, toxic responses, bioconcentration and biomagnification of four typical HMs, lead (Pb), cadmium (Cd), nickel (Ni) and zinc (Zn), were systematically investigated under different combined exposure conditions.
