Surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) has shown potential for early disease diagnosis via urinary metabolomics, but still faces challenges in achieving stable hot spots and processing complex clinical data. In this study, the preparation of chiral gold nanostars with precisely controllable branch size, number, and sharpness was realized by investigating the effects of l-GSH and CTA ( indicates halides) on site occupancy, reduction rate, and selective adsorption on crystal facets. Raman spectroscopic characterization using rhodamine 6G (R6G) as a reporter molecule revealed that nanoparticles with fewer branches, larger branch bases, and smoother surfaces exhibited excellent SERS activity, with an analytical enhancement factor (AEF) of 5.

Conjugated polymer nanoparticles (CPNs), especially poly(-phenylene ethynylene) nanoparticles (PPE-NPs), are promising candidates for bio-imaging due to their high photostability, adjustable optical characteristics, and biocompatibility. Despite their potential, the fluorescence mechanisms of these nanoparticles are not yet fully understood. In this work, we modeled a spherical PPE-NP in a water environment using 30 PPE dimer chains.

Photodegradable nanoparticles with sphere, worm, and vesicle morphologies were synthesized following polymerization induced self-assembly (PISA), incorporating a photoresponsive phenyl vinyl ketone (PVK) block and a nonphoto responsive 2-hydroxypropyl methacrylamide (HPMA) block. The photodegradation of nanoparticles under UV revealed that the initial shapes of sphere and vesicle particles are retained even until 7 h and after 24 h of photo-induced degradation, respectively, despite a significant reduction in molecular weight (M). This could be due to the assembly of degraded PVK fragments in the hydrophobic region, maintaining the relative hydrophilic to hydrophobic ratio.

The minimum particle size and the highest encapsulation efficiency of the nanoparticles were at mass ratios of RG:HMP = 2:1, RG:MMP = 4:1, and RG:LMP = 2:1. The results of Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and circular dichroism spectroscopy show that hydrogen bonding, hydrophobic interaction, and electrostatic attraction are the main driving forces for the formation of complexes.

Overcoming the persistent challenges of high operating temperatures and poor selectivity in metal oxide semiconductor (MOS) gas sensors, this work enhances defect sites in the sensing material through heterostructure construction and builds mesoporous architectures using MOF-derived carbon skeletons as templates. The synergistic effects of multiple mechanisms significantly improve gas-sensing performance, successfully fabricating a ZnO/PCS flexible room-temperature gas sensor with exceptional room-temperature DMF detection capabilities. The nitrogen-containing porous carbon skeletons (PCSs) template shows a stable mesoporous microstructure with large pore volume.
